Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Is B.A. at Wilson College worth the investment?

A:
{Source: B.A. students & alumni}

Based on student reviews and feedback, here's what stands out:

* Academics: The faculty is helpful and well-qualified, with a curriculum aligned with Mumbai University standards. Exams are manageable, and the passing percentage is high (around 80-90%).
* Infrastructure: The college has a decent infrastructure, with amenities like Wi-Fi, labs, library, canteen, sports ground, and more. However, some areas, like classroom maintenance and washroom cleanliness, could improve.
* Placements: There are limited job opportunities within the college itself. Many students opt for internships during their studies, and most graduates choose to pursue further education or government exams. Some top recruiters visit the college, but the average package is relatively low (Rs. 2-3 Lacs per annum).
* Support: The college provides a supportive environment, with teachers willing to go the extra mile to guide students. Seniors and peers are also involved in creating a positive atmosphere.

In conclusion, whether the B.A. programme at Wilson College is "worth the investment" depends on individual goals and priorities. For those interested in pursuing higher education or specialised fields, the college may offer a solid foundation. However, for students seeking direct corporate job placement, the limited opportunities might be a concern.

Here are the key takeaways:

* Strong academic reputation and supportive faculty
* Limited job prospects within the college
* Average package offers and reliance on self-effort for placements
* Decent infrastructure and amenities, with room for improvement
* A supportive environment and various extracurricular opportunities

Q:   Is B.M.M. at Wilson College worth the investment?

A:
{Source: B.M.M. students & alumni}

Based on student reviews and feedback, here's a summary of the pros and cons:

Pros:

* Good faculty with industry expertise, helping students resolve doubts and queries
* Relevant curriculum, preparing students for the media industry
* Opportunities for internships and industry exposure
* Dynamic and young faculty
* Excellent infrastructure, including a huge library, Wi-Fi-enabled campus, and sports facilities
* Good hostel facilities, although with some limitations
* Annual fests, including the largest media department fest, Polaris

Cons:

* Placement record may vary, with some students opting for higher education instead of direct employment
* Limited company visits for recruitment, leaving students to find jobs independently
* Some students reported dissatisfaction with the Industrial Visit organized by the college
* Strict curfew rules in hostels
* Washroom facilities in hostels need improvement

Overall, while BMM at Wilson College seems to offer a good educational experience, students should be prepared for limited job prospects and may need to rely on self-initiative to secure employment. The college's infrastructure, faculty, and extracurricular activities are significant strengths, making it a worthwhile investment for those passionate about the field. However, students should weigh these benefits against the potential drawbacks before making an informed decision.

Q:   Is it worth pursuing B.Com at Wilson College?

A:
{Source: B.Com students & alumni}

Based on the reviews and feedback from current and past students, here's a summary of the key points:

Teaching Quality:
* Some teachers are helpful and knowledgeable, providing tips and tricks for studying.
* Others may not teach effectively, relying on textbooks instead of interactive learning methods.
* One student mentioned that only 1-2 teachers in the BAF department teach well and care about students' studies.

Placement Opportunities:
* Placements exist, but the BAF department might not be prioritized by the self-finance department.
* Fewer students get placement compared to other departments (out of 60 students, only 1 got a placement).
* Companies like Morgan Stanley and Nestle have visited the college for recruitment.

Infrastructure and Facilities:
* The college has a great campus with multiple playgrounds, an auditorium, and a college hall.
* Classrooms are spacious, with good ventilation and WiFi availability.
* However, some issues persist, such as dusty classrooms and pigeon infestation.

Student Life:
* Cultural events and festivals are regular occurrences, including "Ole," the official fest of Wilson College.
* Students appreciate the flexibility offered by the course structure and the opportunity to take part in extracurricular activities.

Course Curriculum:
* The course curriculum is balanced, covering topics related to accounting, finance, taxation, and financial management.
* Some students feel that the course doesn't prepare them adequately for the industry.

Considering these points, pursuing a B.Com degree at Wilson College can be a decent choice for those interested in the field. While some drawbacks exist, the college offers a supportive environment, good infrastructure, and opportunities for placement. Students who thrive under guidance from dedicated teachers may benefit from this program. Ultimately, whether or not it's "worth" pursuing depends on individual goals and expectations.

Pros:

* Good teaching quality and supportive teachers
* Relevant coursework and industrial exposure
* Variety of extracurricular activities and events
* Well-equipped infrastructure and resources
* Opportunities for internships and research projects
* Campus life is enjoyable and lively

Cons:

* Limited placement opportunities, particularly for chemistry students
* Some students find the curriculum outdated and not industry-ready
* Infrastructure could be improved in some areas
* Placement cell does not actively pursue job opportunities for students
* Focus on theory-based learning might limit hands-on experience

I'm satisfied with faculty and college crowd and disappointed by the management.
Placements: There are about 130 students in our course. A few companies came to our college and offered internships, but in my batch, only a few got into it. Companies like Morgan Stanley and Colgate are there for hiring. I guess out of 130 students, only 5-10 students are interested in giving their interviews. Honestly, I don't know how many really got placed out of those 5-10 students.
Infrastructure: We have over 200 years old building that gives vibe similar to Hogwarts of India and the infrastructure is good. They have built another building inside now, which is a modern kind of building. The ventilation there is really suffocating, at least for me and for a few of my mates, It was suffocating when we sat there for a long time. The canteen food is good and affordable.
Faculty: Teachers in our course are all working professionals from the industry, so they have lot of knowledge and skills. The quality of teaching is interactive and great. We didn’t have any books, we are given real industry-type scenarios from which we studied. We did not have particular textbook or anything. We did get study material in PDF and Xerox copies of popular books written by industry experts. So, whatever we are taught in lectures is too good and are easier to undersatand and to relate to, as we see those things every day in our day-to-day life.

Our college has a beautiful building.
Placements: The placement cell of the college is not up to the mark. There are many guest lectures and master classes. Students get industry exposure and internship opportunities. Most students prefer to pursue higher education. Students who have graduated from college work in various media houses.
Infrastructure: There are separate hostels for girls and boys. The campus is equipped with Wi-Fi. It has a huge library. The food is good. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are available. There is a gymkhana. Students can play various sports. They can participate in competitions representing the college.
Faculty: Recently, the college has gained autonomy. Therefore, the college designs its own syllabus. According to industry standards, the curriculum is relevant. Teachers are knowledgeable and helpful. They are well-versed in their subjects.
Other: Annual fests are held. The college also conducted other fests. It is up to the students to decide what activities to participate in. People from all over India come to study here. It is a melting pot of diverse cultures.

It is one of the best colleges in Mumbai for BAMMC.
Placements: As I have heard from seniors, the placements are better as compared to other colleges. Almost our whole class of 150 students complained about internships in the first year itself or ended up doing one in the first year break while the other completed it in the second year.
Infrastructure: In this college, the hostel is good, but the washrooms are not great. The classrooms are average, a good library, and free Wi-Fi is enabled throughout the college. The hostel has a strict curfew of two-hour ease on Sunday, and I would suggest looking for a paying guest apartment instead.
Faculty: In this college, faculty members are great. The teachers teach very well and they are very interactive.

The college provides good opportunities.
Placements: The college provides a good amount of internships to its students for more practical-based learning. Industry experts do come and provide mentorship to the students. A lot of students opt for jobs outside of college placements. The average salary package offered ranges from 4-5 LPA in the 3rd year.
Infrastructure: The college has one of the oldest buildings in Mumbai. That is why it is of high significance and a part of the cultural heritage. The college is situated exactly in front of Girgaon Chowpatty. It has large classrooms and a huge library with books on various topics. There is a gymkhana in the college too where students can play various sports. The mess serves good and tasty food.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are really helpful. They themselves have been a part of the media industry and bring a lot of expertise with them. All doubts and queries are resolved. The course curriculum is relevant, which will help us to be better media students in today's times. The first and second semester exams are quite easy, but the difficulty level keeps on increasing thereafter.
Other: Wilson College organises the largest media department fest called Polaris. Many famous celebrities attend the festival. The crowd is good. You get to learn a lot from your peers. I made short films with my batchmates. I have chosen this course because I want to become an actor. I want to be in the film industry. You can make a lot of different connections and get to know various people if you go out and talk to them. Everyone I have met is friendly and receptive to others.

This college life is excellent, but the staff is not up to the mark.
Placements: There were no placements. Students were not expecting a lot from college but in return, students didn't get absolutely anything. There were no companies visiting our college and it was a hard situation for the students to find a job or a career after graduation.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure was good. It comes under the heritage sites of South Bombay so it was built way back during British India days and students used to talk a lot of pride in the authenticity of our college and the way it was built. It provides a good experience.
Faculty: The facilities changed 3 types during our 3 years of college. It had 3 HOD changes which says the management was not well and because of situations like this students never got to settle with any of the professors. The course was easy in this college.
Other: This college fests were excellent. I opted for this course, because it guarantee to excel me in vast number of fields.
