The National Institute of Design (NID) conducts the NID DAT entrance exam for admission to the B.Des course and M.Des course offered by participating colleges. There are currently five NIDs that offer the B.Des program, with specializations available in various disciplines, including Communication Design, Industrial Design, and Textile and Apparel Design. Meanwhile, the M.Des program is offered. The admission process for the current session is currently ongoing. The NID DAT 2025 application form was open from September 3 to December 6, 2024. The National Institute of Design will conduct the NID DAT 2025 exam on January 5, 2025. The exam will be administered in an offline mode (pen-and-pencil test). NID DAT Mains 2025 will be conducted on April 26 - May 4 (B.Des) and March 3 - April 6, 2025 (M.Des). The results for NID DAT (Prelims) 2025 for M.Des will be declared on February 17, 2025. Meanwhile, DAT Prelims results for the B.Des program will be announced on April 1, 2025.

NID DAT 2025 Reservation - Key Points
- Candidates belonging to the creamy layer cannot apply under the OBC-NCL category.
- GEN- EWS category - The benefit of reservation will be given to candidates to general category candidates who satisfy the condition given in OM No. 20013/01/2018-BC-II dated January 17, 2019 issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, GoI.
- The verification of the category certificate will be done after the DAT Prelims exam.
- During verification, if it is found that the document is not valid, the candidature of the candidate will be cancelled.

Q: What are the participating institutes of NID for the B. Des programme?
There are five participating institutes of NID DAT exam that offer the B.Des program.
These include: NID Ahmedabad NID Andhra Pradesh NID Haryana NID Madhya Pradesh NID Assam.
The seat intake for the B. Des stands at 425. Among the participating institutes, NID Ahmedabad has an intake of 125 seats, while the rest of the NIDs each has an intake of 75 seats. Note that seats are reserved for categories like General-EWS, OBC, SC, and ST categories.
Admission to these seats will be on the basis of NID DAT scores.
Note that the next edition of the NID DAT exam, or NID DAT 2025, will be conducted tentatively in December 2024.
The application form is expected to commence in September 2024.
Q: Can Diploma candidates apply for admission to M.Des programme through NID DAT 2025?
Diploma candidates need to meet the following conditions for admission:
- Done full-time Diploma of 4-year duration after 10+2
- Diploma in the following subjects is accepted - Design/ Fine Arts/ Applied Arts/ Architecture.
- The Diploma must be done from a university or institute recognised by law in India.
Additionally, the candidate must have appeared in all the subjects and backlogs (if any) by June 30, 2025.
Q: Do I need to select campuses as part of NID DAT counseling 2024 for B.Des program?
Yes, all B.Des candidates who were shortlisted for NID DAT 2024 counseling had to summit their campus preferences. The window to submit campus preferences was open from May 21 (4 pm) to May 23 (4 pm).
The preferences had to be entered in the order of priority.
Note that the allotment of seats to the B.Des programme will be based on the campus option selected and merit rank of the candidate in NID DAT 2024. So, one must bear caution when entering their preferences.

The reporting time for the DAT Prelims exam will be mentioned on the NID DAT 2025 admit card. Reach the exam center as per the reporting time. Note that latecomers will not be allowed inside the NID DAT 2025 exam center.

No, unfilled seats in SC/ ST category will not be de-reserved. Meaning, such seats will not be transferred to the open category. The same applies to GEN-EWS category seats.
So, even if there are vacant seats left in SC, ST, and GEN-EWS category, such seats will lapse.
