These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.

K.J. Somaiya is conducting online Google classroom lectures to complete their portion and helping us to prepare for the exams. Lectures are been conducting on the basis of the need for the portion for each subject but there are frequent lectures that are being attended by students.

All the assignments and term work are to be submitted through Google classroom. Almost 7-8 assignments have been given to us. Teachers are taking online assessment tests for each of the topics to know how the students are utilizing their time in this difficult situation and how they are preparing for the exams. Some of the teachers are sharing online videos of each chapter and of certain topics to understand the topic well.

The main difference between online learning class and brick and mortar classroom is our comfort. We can see online lectures at our own pace and if we don’t understand the topic then we can rewind the video to clear our concept but in a classroom, we hesitate to ask doubts or to explain the topics again.

There are many advantages and at the same time disadvantages of both -

Advantages:

Online:

     1. We can learn things at our own pace.

  1. If we are unable to understand anything we can see the video again.

Offline:

     1. We can ask our doubts and clarify them at the same time.

  1. We can counter question the teacher why this is happening or what is the reason behind this?

Disadvantages:

Online:

      1. While viewing the video we cannot ask the doubts and clarify them.

  1. We cannot counter questions except if live stream lectures are going.

Offline:

     1. It is actually very boring to go to the classroom every day and sit in the lectures.

  1. We hesitate to ask doubts because any of them can laugh at us.

In this leisure time, I am utilising my time by reading books which I thought I would read if I had the time. I am also painting and enjoying my time with family. I am preparing for defence examination and at first, I was really upset that my exam was postponed but then I thought that I have more time to prepare for the exam and I am utilising the time wisely. Since most of the exams have been postponed, the admission process will start later.

Since all our needs have been shifted online it might be possible that the same happens with education can also be shifted and nowadays most of the students are learning and upgrading their skills with the help of YouTube, online courses, etc.
