CET Bhubaneshwar to upgrade to university

The Odisha Government has decided to upgrade the College of Engineering and Technology (CET), Bhubaneswar, to a non-affiliating university to facilitate research and higher studies there. A proposal in this regard has been approved by the state cabinet.

Once upgraded, CET to be renamed Odisha University of Technology and Research  

The government has approved the enactment of the Odisha University of Technology and Research Bill, 2021. Once the bill gets passed by the state assembly, the CET will be renamed Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR), Bhubaneswar, Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra said.

Once the upgradation process is complete, the CET, which is said to be one of the oldest technical institutes in Odisha, will be able to offer graduate, postgraduate education, PhD and research in the field of engineering, science and technology, including information technology and its application, architecture and management through instruction training, research, development and extension.

The CET authorities will also provide better employment opportunities for students through entrepreneurial training and specialised skill development courses, Mohapatra said.

The OUTR will serve as a centre for cooperation and interaction between the academic and research community on the one hand and industry on the other,” he added.

Established in 1981 as a constituent college of the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, the College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar (CETB) is a public engineering college under the state government in Bhubaneswar. It was a constituent College of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar, since inception.
