College is helping making sure to cover the designated syllabus and that too in time: Nidhi, SSIPMT
These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.
While people have been forced to stay indoors due to the 21-day lockdown to combat the spread of COVID-19, there are several essential services that continue to operate without any fail. However, keeping in mind the safety of students and to prevent community spread, all the educational institutions including schools and colleges were shut as an immediate response to the disease. This action suddenly froze the pace of education and halted the ongoing studies of students all over the world.
But this was not for long, the Indian education system cannot be halted for quite a long time in any case. Various colleges, throughout the nation, came up with different and amazing approaches to keep in touch with their students and to find a way around educating them.
I’m a final year student of Civil Engineering in Shri Shankaracharya Institute of Professional Management and Technology, Raipur. Like many other students, I’m also away from Raipur and I don’t have my notes or my books with me. Thanks to the management of my college, this is not much of a problem now. They’ve initiated online classes for the juniors in a very systemized and effective way. Our faculty members now teach the students online and clear their doubts on the go. A time table has been prepared which is regularly followed by both students as well as faculties to continue the classes online.
Since many final year students are still busy doing their internships and some of them have started their jobs, online classes would not be very helpful for them. So to overcome this problem all the final year students of respective branches have been provided with notes of respective subjects unit-wise by respective faculty members so that the students could study them according to their convenience. Also, they have allotted specific time slots to various subjects and respective faculty members on alternate days so that the students can clear their doubts and the teachers will also not be disturbed. This initiative by SSIPMT, Raipur is definitely helping all the groups and students to cover the designated syllabus and that too in time.
Talking about the projects, since mine was a lab practical work, unfortunately, we were only able to do a part of what we were supposed to do due to the lockdown. So, right now, we are continuing the project by building up the report for the final assessment.
In my college, practical as well as labs are given huge importance, so most of the lab work was completed beforehand. Now, all we are left to do is to complete the theory work of various lab classes.
Apart from regular online classes and discussions, my college has built its own test-taking website and designed various tests for non-technical subjects such as aptitude, English, comprehension, etc. in order to make sure students develop their strengths in most of the areas so as to prepare us for the upcoming campus recruitment drives and also boost our confidence. After completion of the tests, the results are declared immediately and toppers are showcased on the website. Apart from that, it has been made sure that any kind of late fee will not be imposed upon the students to remove the financial burden from their shoulders.
All the efforts made by the college management and the steps taken for the welfare of the students is highly appreciated by all the students.
