How I chose the right path in life: Arun Kujoor
When I was in 8th standard, our teacher used to ask us about our ambitions. I always said that I wanted to be an Engineer one day. But when you are in 8th standard, you don’t particularly have any knowledge about any particular field. There was a time when my aunt said "You can’t do anything in your life because you have just scored 64% marks and less numbers in JEE". But I am the only son in my home, and I was expected to be an Engineer one day. I had zero knowledge of how a computer worked, how the CPU functioned, the processes, etc. But I chose to be an IT (Information Technology) student so that I could make antivirus-like software one day.
I got a call one day saying "Is this Arun Kujoor? Congratulations, based on the counselling process, you got Orissa Engineering College, Bhubaneswar".
I was thankful that I finally got admission in college. Now, nobody would be able to say anything to me. So, it was in 2016 when I went to the college for the first time. The college was overall nice. I was very excited. When I entered, I told my seniors “Hi, I am from IT department”. They were like "How do we care?" Then, like in every college IT students get tired of being asked why they didn’t opt for CS, so was I. This is all about how my college started.
Let’s me share about BTech now. I was a below average student. I tried to learn everything possible. A below average student can also do whatever they want; only efforts are needed. There was a teacher of C programming who used to tell his story of how he was also an average student and didn’t like programming, but was teaching programming right now. So what made him do the same? He told us there is only one word which can change your world- effort. There are many teachers in my college who motivated me and right now, I’m in the 3rd year and can imagine myself as an employee in one of the best IT companies.
I am a very patient person as I believe that one day, whatever I’m aiming for, will be mine. Whatever the current situation is, it definitely won’t decide my future. Orissa Engineering College, Bhubaneswar, being a private college, has had many of its students placed in the topmost companies. One of my seniors got a job in Infosys. I asked her if it was difficult to get a job if one is from a private college. She told me to firstly stop categorising the colleges as private and government colleges. A college is a college. If you believe in yourself, then whichever your college is, you will get placed. Knowledge matters always. Right now, I'm in the pre final year and next year, I will sit for the placements. I don’t know if I will get placed or not but I believe that one day, I will be at the top of the industry. This is my belief and I will make it happen. My Java teacher used to say "Action removes fear". This is the best line I have ever heard, and the best part is, it works too.
I would like to thank you for taking out some time for reading my story. In the end, I want to say that no matter which engineering college you’re from, it is you who can change the world, not your college.
