Mystory@Jehmuthu: How I chose my course and college

2 mins readUpdated on Apr 24, 2017 18:14 IST

I did not score well in my standard 10 Boards. I scored only 72 percent, which was not sufficient to get admission in 11th standard in my school. So, I was sent into a hostel where I learnt everything by myself. However, this time I scored marks even lesser than those in class 10 since I was away from my strict mom. In no time, everybody started calling me an idiot and convinced my mom too that I was one.

My dad is my hero and he supported me every time. I got 60 marks in the entrance exam, which was sufficient to get into a reputed college. Even though I scored well, I didn’t meet the proper cut-off mark to join those colleges. When it came to selecting the stream, I was fond of computers, but my dad insisted that I take up mechanical engineering.

I was dumb because I didn't score well. I entered MAM College of Engineering as an average student with others having scores more than me. I had the least score in my class.

My college life

If I were given another chance, I would be a tech guy. College is the place where I discovered my talent, where I didn't mind people trying to put me down. I behaved like nothing could put me down. I participated in every competition. I failed but I bounced back. I got many prizes which boosted me to the next level. I started getting better than my friends. At one stage, they stopped thinking of me as an idiot. I changed my impression. One of my professors, Dr. Kannan helped me a lot. Every piece of firewood needs some ignition. I was sparked by him. I participated in every event conducted in my college then in nearby colleges and so on. I am someone who was afraid of public speaking, still, I did everything. All this added on to my development as I went to different colleges and met different people. I started growing with other people. Those were my happiest moments.

I believe in the quote, “Learn from mistakes and be always ready to make mistakes.”
