Admissions to IITs without GATE 2025 Scores: Check Eligibility, Process, and more

IIT Madras BTech cutoff 2024 got released across multiple specialisations. Based on the Round 1 seat allotment, to get into IIT Madras, students must score between 159 and, 9912 for the General AII India category. In addition to that, For getting into BTech Mechanical Engineering, you must have a rank upto 2302. Also, Mechanical Engineering is one of the most competitive BTech specialisations at IIT Madras. So, considering the round 1 cutoff, if you are seeking admission to Indian Institute of Technology Madras, you must secure a maximum rank upto 9912.

It's not possible to get admission to the BTech programme without JEE. For Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programme, aspirants are offered admission based on JEE Main score. Hoewever, for BSc programme admission,  JEE is not compulsory. Candidates with a valid score in IISER Aptitude Test can also get admission. For other courses such as MTech, MSc and PhD, JEE Main is not required for admission at Indian Institute of Science (IISC).

MTech admission at IIT Madras is primarily based on GATE scores, followed by COAP counselling. However, as per the basic eligibility criteria mentioned on the official website of IIT Madras, getting admission at the institute without qualifying for the GATE entrance exam is possible. For this, candidates must have a BTech degree from one of the IITs, with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 (on a scale of 10). Such candidates can directly apply for MTech admission through the official IIT Madras website. These applications are then reviewed by the respective departments before taking the final admission decision.

The answer is both yes and no. It is possible to get admission in any IIT without JEE, but in other courses than BTech. A student can enter into IITs via IIT JAM (Joint Admission Test) for MSc, GATE for MTech, via UCEED and CEED for BDes and MDes and via CAT for MBA. So, if the dream is just to enter into IITs, there are various courses one can pursue except for BTech. However, admission to IIT Kharahpur for the flagship BTech programme is subject to a valid score in JEE Main and JEE Advanced followed by JoSAA Counselling. Passing marks in GATE exam is different for all 30 papers. The GATE qualifying mark for PSUs recruitment is also different. Candidates appearing in any GATE paper have to obtain the minimum mark in order to be declared qualified for the exam. Only qualified candidates are considered for admission to MTech/MSc/PhD programs and the MHRD scholarship.
