Q: How many questions are asked in JEE Main exam?

The JEE Main exam will have a total of 75 questions from all three subjects. The exam will have 25 questions each from Physics Chemistry and Mathematics. Out of 25 questions, 20 will be multiple choice questions and 5 will be questions with numerical value answers. Students need to answer all 5 numerical value type questions. Also all 20 multiple choices questions are compulsory and no choice is provided in them. Students need to complete all the 75 questions in 3 hours.

Q: Which was the toughest shift of JEE Mains 2024 session 1?

As per students who appeared in JEE Main 2024 session 1 exam, and the subject experts from various coaching institutes - January 29 shift 1 paper was the toughest in comparison to other shift papers. Many students also found January 27 shift 2 exam difficult.

However, students must note that JEE Main question papers are set at similar difficulty level for all shifts and sessions. There may come a few questions with difficulty level higher than the other.

Q: How can I prepare for JEE Main 2025 without coaching?

Taking help of coaching is not necessarily required for clearing the JEE Mains exam. Many students score good marks in JEE Main by self-studying, without help from coaching. To crack JEE Mains without coaching, students need to make a study plan considering the time they have before exam. Students can take help of online tutorials and videos from previous year toppers who have cleared the exam without coaching to understand their strategy. One thing that is required when students are not taking coaching is regular study. Make a daily time table of study and devote at least 5-6 hours for JEE Main preparation. Students who are in class 11 or 12 can give 3-4 hours specifically for JEE beside school studies. Students who have passed class 12 should also study at least 6 hours daily.

JEE Main previous year question papers are the best source of learning in the path to cracking JEE Mains. It gives information about the difficulty level of the exam and Chapterwise weightage of topics covered in the exam. Previous year JEE Main question papers can be used as mock tests/sample papers to evaluate and analyze the one’s performance and preparation level. It is advised that students analyze the previous year question paper thoroughly once they start preparing for the JEE Mains. The frequency of taking JEE Main mock test would vary based on the number of days left for the test. When there are three to four months left for the exam, students should take mock tests twice a week and dedicate the rest of the days for analysis and preparation. In the last month before JEE Main the frequency of taking mock tests would increase. They are expected to take a full-length mock test every alternate day. After taking mock tests students should get it analyzed by their mentors to improve their performance and to create the exam taking strategy.

The high weightage topics from class 11 and 12 Physics as per previous year paper analysis are Current Electricity Waves AC, Magnetism, Laws of Motion Work, Power and Energy. In Chemistry the high weightage topics are s and p block elements, Coordination compounds, Thermodynamics Gaseous state, Chemical bonding, Atomic structure, Polymers, Environmental Chemistry Organic Chemistry. Q: Can I complete JEE Main syllabus in 6 months?

JEE Mains syllabus can be completed in 6 months considering the topics had already been studied in class 11 and 12. As the topics in JEE Main syllabus and class 11/12 topics are similar, students can easily complete the revision in 6 months. However, completing the syllabus does not mean the completing the preparation. Q: Is JEE Main syllabus same as syllabus of JEE Advanced?

The syllabus of JEE Mains is not same as JEE Advanced. Candidates must note that JEE Mains and Advanced are two different exam meant for different purposes. JEE Main is conducted for admission to NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs while JEE Advanced is conducted for admission to IITs. In terms of syllabus, although both JEE Mains and Advanced have class 11 and 12 topics of Physics Chemistry and Mathematics, there are some topics which are a part of Mains syllabus but not in Advanced. Q: What is the sequence of sections in the JEE Mains question paper?

As per the sequence of subject/section in JEE Main, Mathematics is the first section followed by Physics and Chemistry. However, students have the option of appearing questions from any section based on their preference. During the actual exam, students are provided the instructions on the computer screen to navigate between one section to other. Students also have the option to skip the next question without appearing the current as well as moving back to the previous question. NTA will release JEE Main exam pattern 2024 in information brochure along with the application form. The pattern of JEE Main 2024 is likely to remain the same. As per the current pattern, JEE Main exam have 90 questions, 30 each from Physics Chemistry and Mathematics. Out of 30 questions, 20 will be MCQ and 10 will be questions with numerical value answers. Students will need to answer any 5 questions out of 10 in numerical value type questions.
