Commonly asked questions
Q:   Which entrance exam is accepted by DTU?
A:

No, DTU does not conduct any entrance exam of its own for admission to any of the UG, PG or doctoral-level courses. Admission for the flagship BTech programme is based on JEE Main scores and the entire process of counselling are conducted by JAC Delhi. Further, DTU admission to all the remaining courses is mostly based on national/ university-level entrance exams, such as UCEED,  GATE,  CAT,  MAT and CMAT, among others. However, there are a few MBA specialised courses and BBA, admission to which is offered based on the past qualifying exam  (UG level) followed by an interview round.

Q:   Is DTU as good as an IIT?
A:

DTU's BTech in Civil Engineering course has been rated 4.2/5 by 95 Shiksha verified students, while the same course at IIT Delhi has been rated 4.6/5 by 41 students at Shiksha. Also, as per the NIRF 2024 Rankings, Delhi Technological University has been ranked 27 under the 'Engineering' category, however, there are many IITs that are ranked before DTU in the same category. But, despite that, DTU competes against the top-notch NITs and second-phase IITs in streams such as Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematics and Computing. Hence, it is safe to say that DTU is as good as a second-phase IIT or an NIT.

AskShikshaGPT on App
Q:   Can I get into DTU without giving JEE?
A:

No, candidates cannot get admission to DTU without appearing for JEE Main as the DTU BTech counselling is done through JAC Delhi. The basic criteria for admission to BTech is appearing for JEE Mains. To get into DTU, candidates must score decent marks or at least around 220 or above marks in JEE Mains. The only way to get into DTU without appearing for JEE Main is by taking a lateral entry admission to BTech second year. In order to do this, candidates must complete a Polytechnic course of two years and then appear for an entrance exam (not JEE Main but this exam will give you entry in DTU's second year.

Good university, amazing placements.
Placements: Around 85% are placed, the highest package is around 85 LPA and the average is around 18–19 LPA. Top recruiters are Apple, Google, and Microsoft. Not aware of the exact internship percentage, but it is similar to the placement percentage. IT roles are offered similar roles to Computer Science, and often similar packages.
Infrastructure: Good Wi-Fi is available. Rooms are also clean, and the mess is very close by. A pool table, treadmill, and some weights are available. There is a study room in the hostel. A library is also available to study in. Wi-Fi is also available there. The labs for Python, etc., are good.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful. If you express doubts, they’re willing to help. It does from the 2nd semester onwards, we only have Mathematics and Computing-related subjects, so that is good. Semester exams are manageable if you study. Pass percentage is high, like 90%.
Other: I am interested in mathematics but would like to have a computing touch as well. I think we get high exposure and also understand the background information of computers. I think that within the 1st semester, we should have a few more courses to do with MnC. Events and fests are top-notch, and the crowd is good.

Large campus, good faculty, great placements in 2025, good labs and classes, fully air conditioned.
Placements: In the CSE branch, 80 to 85% students who applied are placed successfully. It is a time of recession, and the numbers have improved this year a lot, which will improve even more. The highest package is 1.3 to 1.4 crores. 2 students are offered that package, international jobs. Average is also great, around 23 to 24 LPA. The lowest is around 6 LPA offered by TCS. Students who are good with coding and with other skills are easily offered high packages at Google and Apple. On campus placements are also available for third year students, and many companies visit every year.
Infrastructure: The college established new buildings for the CSE department, which are very well furnished, fully air conditioned, and have clean toilets, clean drinking water, and overall clean and modern classrooms with projectors and whiteboards. For different courses, multiple labs are also present, and students can also conduct research in these labs. Library is also big and has a huge selection available, ranging from academics to fiction, and it is also air conditioned. Wi-Fi is also available throughout the university. Hostels are also good, with some being air conditioned, and new hostels were also built in the last 1 to 2 years.
Faculty: In first year, some faculty members are made up of Ph.D. scholars, and some senior professors are also there to teach different subjects. They were very knowledgeable and ready to solve doubts. 2nd year onwards, all the professors are the teachers and teaching quality is excellent. Semester exams are easy for those who study, come to classes, and study regularly. Most of the courses make students ready for interviews and other external exams like GATE.
Other: I liked coding and teaching, thats why I chose my branch as CS. First year seems a little heavy as subjects like Physics, Maths, etc. There are, but second year onwards, its all branch based with coding, algorithms, etc., the main focus. The best thing about the course is the placement and internship opportunities. Various fests and events are always happening in the college. Many societies are also established, which keep everyone busy, and teach societies to boost their skill level.

Absolutely satisfied with the campus, faculty, placements, infrastructure, and labs.
Placements: About 70-80% got placement, the lowest is 7 LPA, the average is about 13.5 LPA, and the highest is 18 LPA. Companies are like Pw, Sparkle, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. About 50% got internships in companies like BHEL, Amazon, and Microsoft. Roles include analytical and research scientist, pharmaceuticals.
Infrastructure: The facilities of the classes are great. ACs have been provided for classrooms. Classes are spacious enough. Wi-Fi connection is also provided. Labs are well maintained. The quality of food is also good in the mess and canteen. There is a big sports arena with great medical facilities.
Faculty: Teachers are really helpful, well qualified, and knowledgeable. They are sweet towards students. The course is very relevant as it helps students get ready for industries. Semester exams are not very tough. Almost all students passed. The teaching quality of teachers is great, they help in solving the doubts of each student.
Other: I chose this course because I have a special interest in Chemistry. One thing that can be improved is that we focus more on practical knowledge than theory because Chemistry is all about relations and labs. DTU Engifest is the best fest anyone can ever attend. The campus is best and the crowd is also good. Many extracurricular sessions are also held for the good of students.

It is a very good college and is really good for those near Delhi.
Placements: I am in first year but I heard from the seniors that this year's placement drive is better than last year's. So, I can not give the exact data as per now. But the top recruiting company sure is Atlassian. The highest package is approximately 85 LPA.
Infrastructure: The rooms are spacious. The hostel I got allotted has two rooms (2+1 students), and hostel itself is decent, with table tennis, badminton court, volleyball court, and a TV room to chill. But the Wi-Fi here is not good, and the phone network works. The mess food is edible not that good, and has good medical facilities with a dedicated health center for hostels.
Faculty: Indeed, teachers are qualified and knowledgeable. Everyone is ready to help also. The teaching is good for some professors, mostly they do not care if you are listening or not. Everyone studies by themselves at the end for exams. The course curriculum is relevant. It makes the students industry-ready with lectures, and for their implementation, we have labs with decent equipments. As I am first year, I still have not given any exams for now. But I know that the passing percentage is 33 for the watch mid and end semester.
Other: I got this course as per the counseling. The best things about my course are that this course is best for someone who is confused whether to go for tech or non-tech jobs as it is the easiest to switch between them in this course. The things I wish would be better for my course are to have some better lab equipments, as some have become old tech which will help the ones who want to go for research as they will be using the latest tech. Everything is good except the connectivity which comes by going to 3 KM the nearest metro station.

DTU review - A needed experience.
Placements: Last year, there were no graduates as the policy mandates a 4-year course, so no recent placement data, but past data indicates a 50% placement record, and Big 4 also come from college. Internship support is present during the time of placement season, but it depends on how good the students are.
Infrastructure: No hostel accommodation available, but the rest of the infrastructure is very modern and nice, with fully air-conditioned rooms, lecture halls, library, and cafeteria. The facilities provided are good. There are various other facilities, but campus size has always been a point of doubt for everyone.
Faculty: Faculty is the best part, with good teachers who have a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience. The curriculum is updated in a way that gives both academic and technological knowledge. There have also been talks of increasing and updating the curriculum to fit more recent developments, and the management is also very open to opinion.

Dream tier 1 college DTU.
Placements: Almost everyone is placed in DTU, no one is left. Some are placed on campus, and the rest are placed off campus. The package is good. Mango is the most famous company that comes to DTU every year. FANG internship on campus is very tough to get but you can apply for it or for an off-campus internship.
Infrastructure: In my department in DTU electrical engineering, there are many labs, power electronics, microcontroller, and all. There is a big library in our college. Classrooms are good with full AC. Wi-Fi is available with good speed. Hostel management is overall good.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful in my course like electrical engineering where you can't do anything without your professor's lectures, books recommended, PPT, and all. This is very helpful, and they provide us curriculum. They are very good. Semester exam is mostly tough, don't expect its easy.
Other: When I was a kid, I really felt how current movies how this TV runs, how things like electrical equipment run. There is a curiosity that makes me choose this course.

Q:   Which college is better to pursue BTech in Mechanical Engineering among DTU and NSIT?
A:
As confirmed by a final-year Mechanical undergraduate at DTU-Professors, academics, labs and everything else may be comparable but you aren't going to study all the time. So, when it comes to activities outside the classroom, DTU trumps NSIT easily. Be it curricular fests, sports activities, cultural societies, lenient environment, better infrastructure or even campus as a whole, DTU is far better than NSIT. And taking into consideration the reputation and demand of Mechanical, DTU's Mechanical Engineering stream trumps NSIT's. Even in the field of placements, companies prefer DTU over NSIT for the recruitment of Mechanical Engineering. NSIT needs time to set up its brand when it comes to Mechanicals. '
