Q:   Is there any negative marking in the SSC CGL exam?

A:
Yes, there is a negative marking of 0.50 marks in the SSC CGL tier-I exam. The SSC CGL Tier 2 also has a negative marking. The quantum of negative marking is one-fourth of the marks assigned for the correct answer. The mark assigned for the correct answer is 2 marks and the negative marking is 0.5 marks. No marks will be deducted for unattempted questions. The candidates should avoid the guesswork in the exam because the negative marking rapidly pulls the overall score down in case of incorrect answers.

Q:   How does negative marking affect the final score in SSC CGL exam?

A:

Negative marking in the SSC CGL exam impacts the final score by deducting 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Tier-I and varying marks in different sections of Tier-II. This deduction for incorrect answers can significantly reduce the overall score of candidates, emphasizing the importance of accuracy in responses. Understanding the negative marking scheme is crucial for candidates to strategize their attempts effectively, balancing the number of correct answers with the risk of losing marks for incorrect responses.

Therefore, candidates need to approach the exam cautiously, aiming for accuracy to minimize deductions and improve their final score in the SSC CGL exam

How to Calculate Scores through SSC CGL Answer Key?

To calculate the correct score that candidates can score in the exam, they need to keep the marking scheme in mind. SSC CGL tier-I marking scheme is such that two marks are awarded for each correct answer and 0.5 marks are deducted for each incorrect answer. This means that at the time of tallying the response sheet with the answer key, candidates have to give themselves +2 for each correct answer, -0.5 for each incorrect answer and 0 for each attempted question. The maximum number of marks that candidates can score in the exam is 200. If the candidate secures the marks more than the SSC CGL Tier 1 cutoff of their category, they will be declared qualified for the next stage.

It may be noted that bonus marks got by candidates will be additional. Therefore, candidates can use the formula given below to calculate the correct score that they can score in the tier-I exam:

(Number of correct answers x 2) - (Number of incorrect answers x 0.5) = Marks scored in SSC CGL Tier-I 2022

The candidates can calculate the marks for the SSC CGL Tier 2 exam (for each paper) as following

(Number of right answers x marks assigned to right answers) - (Number of incorrect answers x marks deducted for the incorrect answer)

Q:   How can I calculate my marks using the SSC CGL answer key?

A:

Candidates can calculate their marks using the SSC CGL answer key by comparing their answers with the correct answers given in the key. They can also use the marking scheme provided by the Commission to calculate their marks. The final marks of the candidates are calculated after the normalization process.

The candidates can see below the SSC CGL marking scheme

Marks Awarded for Right AnswerMarks Deducted for Wrong Answer (Negative Marking)
