The CBT 1 exam was conducted from November 25 to 29, 2024 for ALP posts. The exam for Technician posts will be conducted from December 18 to 29, 2024. The CBT 1 exam of RRB ALP comprises questions from Mathematics, General Intelligence, and Reasoning, General Science and General awareness on current affairs. The test carries a total of 75 marks. The CBT 2 is divided into two parts-Part A and Part B. Part A of the second stage CBT comprises 100 objective-type questions from Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, Basic Science and Engineering and General Awareness on Current Affairs. In Part B, Total 75 questions are asked in the exam. This part is qualifying in nature and comprises questions from the trade syllabus prescribed by the Director General of Employment & Training (DGET).

CBT 1 will have 75 questions for 75 marks and the duration granted to resolve the questions is 60 minutes. 1/3^rd ? marks will be deducted for each wrong answer in CBT 1. The CBT 2 will have two parts- Part A and B for 175 marks. 1/3^rd? marks will be deducted for each wrong answer in CBT 2. The marks of candidates are calculated based on the correct and incorrect answers. Normalisation of marks is done to calculate the scores of candidates.

Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have released a short notification for RRB ALP 2024 recruitment. The detailed notification was released on January 20, 2024. A total of 5696 vacancies will be filled through this recruitment process. The exam is conducted for candidates in the age group of 18 to 30 years and who have completed Class 10/SSLC. The recruitment is done for the post of Assistant Loco Pilots and Technicians. This year, the age limit for ALP post has been revised. Earlier, the age limit for ALP was 18 to 28 years. The revised age limit is 18 to 30 years.

RRBs re-opened the window to fill RRB ALP application Form 2024 for Technician posts on October 2, 2024. RRB conducts RRB ALP & Technician exam to fill posts of assistant loco pilot and technicians for different railway zones across the country. A total of 5696 vacancies have been announced for RRB ALP exam. In 2018, a total of 64,371 vacancies were announced for the exam. A colour photograph of size 3.5cm x 3.5cm (not older than three months from the date of application) with clear front view of the candidate without cap and sunglasses should be uploaded. The photo should be only in JPEG format. Candidates are advised to bring one copy of the same photograph along with Hall Ticket/e–Call Letter and original valid Photo ID at the time of examination. RRB ALP Maths syllabus comprises topics such as Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work; Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.

In RRB ALP & Technician exam, only those who have applied for Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) and cleared second stage of, need to appear for CBAT. CBAT is for the candidates who have applied for technician post only. Candidates equal to eight times the number of ALP vacancies are called for CBAT based on the performance in Part A of second stage CBT, subject to qualifying the Part B. Candidates are required to qualify in each of the test batteries of CBAT. The questions in CBAT are in English and Hindi only. There is no negative marking in CBAT. To draw the merit list of ALP,  70 per cent weightage is given to Part A of second stage CBT and 30 per cent in CBAT.

In first two CBTs questions will come in MCQ format. The third stage is CBAT, where candidates will be given five test batteries. The CBT carries 75 objective-type multiple-choice questions from Mathematics, General Intelligence, and Reasoning, General Science and General awareness on current affairs. The test carries a total of 75 marks. The duration of the test is 60 minutes. The standard of questions in first stage CBT is framed as per the educational qualification prescribed for the posts.
