Q:   What is the SSC CGL cutoff?

A:
SSC CGL cutoff is the minimum marks that a candidate needs to qualify for their respective stage/tier of the exam. In other words, we can say that the SSC CGL cutoff is the marks of the last selected candidate in a particular category. These marks differ for each post group. SSC CGL cutoff depends on the number of vacancies in the exam. A higher number of vacancies means a lower cutoff for each stage of the exam because the Commission will be required to select a higher number of candidates in each stage.

Q:   Is the SSC CGL cutoff for all categories the same?

A:
No, the SSC CGL cutoff varies as per the category (your, SC, ST, OBC, PH) of candidates. They are different for each post group. The SSC CGL cutoff is different for all categories within the same post group. The candidates need to score equal to or more than their category cutoff to qualify for the next stage of the exam. Q:   How does the negative marking impact the overall SSC CGL cutoff?

A:

The impact of negative marking on the overall cutoff score in SSC CGL depends on the number of incorrect answers and the difficulty level of the questions. For every wrong attempt, there is a negative marking of 0.50 marks in the SSC CGL exam. The cutoff score is influenced by the balance between correct answers and deductions due to negative marking.

Candidates need to manage their attempts effectively to minimize the impact of negative marking on their overall score and cutoff in the SSC CGL exam

They can also use the marking scheme provided by the Commission to calculate their marks. The final marks of the candidates are calculated after the normalization process.

Normalisation of SSC CGL Marks

SSC CGL Tier-I and -II exams are conducted in online mode in multiple shifts over a period of a few days. To avoid discrepancies in the difficulty level of the exams conducted in multiple shifts, the Staff Selection Commission normalises the scores of candidates. Thereafter, these normalised scores are used to determine the final SSC CGL cutoff marks.

Q:   What is the minimum passing marks for SSC CGL Tier 2 exam?

A:

The Staff Selection Commission can change the passing marks required for clearing the SSC CGL Tier 2. The minimum passing marks for the SSC CGL Tier 2 exam vary based on categories. For the UR category, the minimum qualifying marks are 30%, for OBC/EWS it is 25%, and for all other categories, it is 20%.

Thumbs Up IconUpvote Thumbs Down Icon

Q:   How does negative marking affect the final score in SSC CGL exam?

A:

Negative marking in the SSC CGL exam impacts the final score by deducting 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Tier-I and varying marks in different sections of Tier-II. This deduction for incorrect answers can significantly reduce the overall score of candidates, emphasizing the importance of accuracy in responses. Understanding the negative marking scheme is crucial for candidates to strategize their attempts effectively, balancing the number of correct answers with the risk of losing marks for incorrect responses.

Therefore, candidates need to approach the exam cautiously, aiming for accuracy to minimize deductions and improve their final score in the SSC CGL exam

Q:   What is the Normalisation of Marks in SSC CGL Exam?

A:

Normalization of marks in the SSC CGL (Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level) examination is a process used to ensure fairness and equity in the assessment of candidates' performance across different shifts or sessions of the examination. The SSC CGL exam is conducted in multiple shifts or sessions, and sometimes there may be variations in the difficulty level of questions or other factors such as the number of candidates appearing in each session. Normalization helps in addressing these variations to determine a fair and standardized score for all candidates.

SSC CGL result is released based on the normalised marks only.
