SSC JHT Notification 2024: Staff Selection Commission (SSC) released SSC JHT notification 2024 on August 2, 2024 to fill up a total of 312 vacancies. The application form was available from August 2 to 25, 2024. Earlier, the notification was scheduled  to be released on July 23, 2024. However, the commission had delayed the release of SSC JHT notification 2024. SSC JHT notification contains details such as dates, vacancies, eligibility criteria, the application process, exam pattern, syllabus, etc. The selection process of SSC JHT comprises Paper 1, 2 and document verification. 

SSC JHT exam is conducted for recruitment to the post of Junior Hindi Translator, Junior Translator and Senior Hindi Translator for various Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations in the Government of India.

SSC JHT application fees for General and OBC categories are INR 100. The application fees for SC/ST/PwD/ESM candidates are exempted from fee payment. The application fees can be paid through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or by using Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, RuPay Credit or Debit card or in cash at SBI Branches by generating the Challan.

Candidates must fulfil the following SSC JHT eligibility criteria:

  • The lower age limit is 18 years
  • Should not be more than 30 years of age
  • Reserved category candidates will be given relaxation in the upper age limit
  • Should have completed Postgraduation or master’s degree from a recognised university
  • The age limit is calculated based on the last date of application

The educational qualification prescribed for SSC JHT exam is given below:

  • Master’s degree in Hindi with English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level OR
  • Master’s degree in English with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination OR
  • Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi or English with Hindi medium and English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of an examination OR
  • Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with English medium and Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level OR 
  • Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects or either of the two as a medium of examination and the other as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level and
  • Recognized Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English & vice versa or 2 years’ experience as a translator from Hindi to English and vice versa in Central or State Government Office, including Government of India Undertaking.

How to Apply for SSC JHT?

Only online applications are accepted for the recruitment exam. The application fee is INR 100 and can be paid online and offline. However, SC/ST/Women/ESM candidates are exempted from fee payment. The steps to fill SSC JHT application form are given below:

  • Visit the official website
  • For one-time registration, candidates need to click on ‘Register Now’ link
  • Enter Basic Details, Additional Details, and Contact Details and upload the scanned images of photograph, signature and LTI for registration
  • Upon registration, registration number and password will be provided to candidates
  • Click the apply link under latest notifications tab to fill the application form
  • Give preferences of exam centres, educational qualification
  • Complete your declaration by clicking on ‘I agree’
  • Preview and submit the application form
  • Pay the examination fees

SSC JHT Notification 2024: Exam Pattern

SSC JHT exam pattern is divided into Paper 1 and 2. Paper 1 is conducted online and comprises two sections-General English and General Hindi. The total marks for the test are 100. Candidates will be given two hours to complete the paper. For the wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted. Paper-II is a conventional type of paper and is conducted offline. The paper comprises questions from Translation and Essay. The total marks allotted to the test are 200.

The exam pattern for SSC JHT is divided into three stages: paper 1, paper 2, and document verification. It goes like this: 1. There are two papers in total. 2. Paper 1 is an online computer-based test. 3. It is divided into two sections, each with 100 objective-type questions. 4. These sections are general Hindi and general English . 5. There is one mark allotted for a correct answer and 0.25 deducted for wrong answers. 6. The second paper is an offline test and is descriptive in nature. 7. It consists of two essays and two translations of passages. 8. The time limit to attempt both papers is two hours. 9. The Paper 1 requires a minimum of 30% to qualify. 10. The merit list will be prepared from 200 marks on paper 2.

Q:   What is SSC JHT Paper 1 pattern?

SSC JHT Paper 1 is a Computer Based Test having multiple-choice questions. It consists of two sections- General English and General Hindi. In Paper-I questions will be designed to test the candidates understanding of the languages and literature, correct use of words, phrases and idioms and ability to write the languages correctly and precisely. The questions will be of degree level. Each section has 100 questions and the total time duration is 2 hours. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. The selection process of SSC JHT comprises Paper 1 and 2 followed by document verification. Based on the marks scored in Paper 1, candidates will be shortlisted category-wise to appear in Paper 2.
