Professor Babli Moitra Saraf, Principal, Indraprastha College for Women, in an exclusive interview with Shiksha.com, shares several initiatives and efforts taken by the college to ensure students do not suffer any academic loss due to the closure of colleges and classes moving online.

Delhi University Admissions 2021 are underway and the last date to submit the DU UG Application form is August 31. Like the previous year, the whole admission process is being conducted online due to COVID-19. Candidates who are interested in DU Admissions 2021 can go to the official website of the University; i.e.du.ac.in to apply. Delhi University has meanwhile announced that it will provide a 100 per cent fee waiver to students who have lost one or both parents to COVID-19.

While speaking about the same, IP College for Women, Principal, Babli Moitra Sara told Shiksha.com, “We have been providing aid to all the students affected by COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Pursuing our vision of diversity inclusion and integration, the college had provided financial assistance to 326 students with the partial waiver of fees including Hostel fee waivers and 9 students with full fee waivers. The assistance was in addition to the support that was received by the reserved category students from state and other agencies.”

“The College has also facilitated more than 100 students to obtain financial aid from other agencies, trusts and NGOS. We also have a Need-Blind admission policy that helps all students to enroll for its courses at the time of admission itself. It continues to support students with registration fees to make their academic presentations in professionally recognized conferences across the world and within the country,” she added.

Since March 2020, the Educational institutions across the Capital are shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The teaching-learning process has been shifted entirely online. From admission to the examination, the University has been conducting everything virtually as a preventive measure to contain the spread of the virus. Many students have been complaining about the challenges they are facing with the online mode of education. With the 19-year-old Delhi University student committing suicide last year, due to lack of devices to attend the online classes, the students who can't afford the devices are in a jiff to apply for admission or not.

Speaking on the digital divide, the principal said, "To avoid any gap in academics, the college has provided the laptops and internet data pack to the needy students and will be providing this year too. Our teachers have been at the forefront to remain connected with the students through SMS, e-mail and phone call. Any student who requires any assistance can contact the college authorities and we will ensure that we provide the best possible help. The college also has a policy of distribution of CD players to all its Visually Handicapped students. With this, we make sure that our differently-abled students are not left behind."

“Under the Diversity Inclusion and Integration Program, the college during COVID-19 pandemic also provided a vital support structure to conduct online teaching-learning for PwD students. The College is in possession of the audio repository application for the use of Visually Impaired (VI) students under the college’s internal research program.  It is called lecture hall and it is an online audio repository for VI students,” she said.

“With this our aim was to make the audio recordings of lectures available to the visually impaired students for their reference, so they suffer academically,” she added.

It must be noted that, as a part of the Institutional Social Responsibility and Outreach Program, the IP College for Women also provided access to its audio repository application to visually impaired students from across the Delhi University colleges.

When asked about students facing trouble to fill the DU Application forms 2021 because of lack of clarity, she said: "We have asked the aspirants seeking assistance from the college to register themselves for admissions to Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses on DU portal to present themselves with prior information to the college office. All such candidates are required to carry their proof of identity to present at the college gate Our motto is to help as many students as possible and for that, we are doing everything possible."
