Mystory@Harshit Kumar Harsh: How I chose my course and college

Mystory@Harshit Kumar Harsh

I belong to Bihar and did Class 12 from Bihar Board in 2015. Even though I wanted to be either a journalist or a civil servant, I opted for Science stream in Class 11 and 12 because my parents wanted me to be an engineer. I secured 68% marks which is very good as compared to CBSE board. After Class 12, I moved to Delhi to pursue higher studies.

In Delhi I explored many journalism and mass communication institutions and felt that IMS, Noida is best for me. Since journalism is my passion, I took admission in journalism course. I even secured the top position in my college. I am popular among teachers and students. It’s a great feeling to have the tag of ‘Topper’.

How I cracked college admission

At IMS, Noida the cut off for direct admission was 75% marks in Class 12. Since I had 68%, I had to take their Joint Entrance Exam (JEE). After a week of filling the JEE form, I was called for the test, which was to be held at the college campus in online mode. The question paper carried 37 MCQs to be answered in 40 mins. Total marks was 100. The questions were related to current affairs, reasoning, English, etc.

I attempted 35 questions because I did not know the answers of 2 questions. I didn’t attempt them because there was a negative marking for wrong answer. After the exam, I waited for half an hour. I got the result and I had scored very well. Post the written test, I appeared for an interview conducted by the HOD of the Journalism and Mass Communication. Next day, I submitted relevant papers and paid the admission fee to secure my seat at IMS, Noida. I did not take any coaching classes for the entrance exam. I just updated myself with latest news and current affairs events. I had also tried for Marwah Studios but I did not take admission there due to high fees.

My college experience

I love to attend all the classes. I’ve never missed any of them or arrived late to a class.

My classes start from 9:15 am and ends at 3:30 pm. After attending classes I spend my time in the library or the college studio to gain practical knowledge. I love to attend all the classes. I’ve never missed any of them or arrived late to a class. This is why I got highest attendance as well. I submit my assignments on time and I am always attentive. I am also the class representative (CR) of my class, so, I am also involved in extracurricular activities like one-on-one sessions with the classmates, submit their feedbacks to the faculty. I attend almost all extracurricular activities in my college, like debate, extempore, panel discussion, quiz competition, photography competition, documentary film making, essay writing, collage making, Rangoli competition etc. I won many of awards in these extra-curricular activities. If I would get a chance, I would like to write for any newspaper or online magazines.

My college has brought a tremendous change in me as a person. I have earned confidence manifold. As I belong to a small town, I was nervous when I first stepped in Delhi. But my college years have taught me many things. My college gave me a good platform to build my confidence. I visited many media houses, news channels, participated in many debate shows which were broadcasted on National Television.
