A journey of self-awareness and realization: Kyle Pereira
I chose science stream in junior college because I was interested in learning about various subjects, especially Physics and Chemistry. Both of these subjects always seemed fascinating to me while I was in school and therefore, I wanted to pursue them further to understand more about the intricate details each one had. I have always had a certain affinity for Mathematics and hence chose that as one of my subjects in junior college. For my degree, I wanted to gain some technical knowledge and therefore chose to pursue Information Technology. Learning various hard skills like coding in C, C#, C++, Java and many other languages was always on my to-do list. I also took a keen interest in scripting languages like HTML and CSS. For my masters, I wanted to combine the technical knowledge I had gained with some practical knowledge of how businesses work and operate, therefore, I am pursuing my Masters in Management Studies.
I took a gap year after completing my degree, during which I interned with an NGO for a period of 7 months. Along with this, I was also preparing for my entrance exams. I planned on giving both CAT and CET, and I did. I studied for almost up to 3 hours every day. I also made sure to stay healthy during this time and especially the period leading up to the examinations. I attended Endeavour coaching classes and I thank them for pushing and helping me achieve the scores that I earned. During the course of these classes, I got an in-depth knowledge of all of the modules that would be asked in the entrance examinations. The main breakdown was quantitative aptitude, verbal skills, logical reasoning, and data interpretation. I worked very hard on what I considered to be my weak areas. Eventually, my hard work paid off; in CAT exam, I scored 87 percentile and in CET, I scored 92 percentile. I got into Don Bosco Institute of Management and Research through the CAP rounds which are based on CET results. I was also looking at other B-schools like MET, Chetana Institute of Management and Research and SIES.
I have made a promise to myself to make the most out of my college life. I attend all of my classes and my favorites, so far, include Business Statistics, Financial Accounting, Organizational Behavior, and Perspective Management. In the college, I am a part of various committees. I am in the placement committee, I am also in the student cell and I am the Events Co-head of my department. I like playing sports and actively try to inculcate everything I have learned in my college life. If there were anything I would like to change, it would be to have more than 2 different lectures a day. If the time of both lectures was cut by just a bit, we could have a third lecture. This refreshes the students as the lectures can get very dry after a certain period of time and everyone’s minds get saturated. Shortening the lecture time and adding a different subject to the time table will allow the students to clear their minds and regain focus for the new subject. College life has always been great for me right from my junior college days. In my current Institute, I have learned so much about others and myself too. This is something that I am truly grateful for, as being in a management institute you get to meet people from so many different backgrounds and hear all of their stories, you even get to know so much about yourself that you never knew before. I am thankful to the institute for this aspect of self-awareness and realization.
