MBBS full form is Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. MBBS course is a 5.5-year UG full-time degree designed to prepare students for the complexities and responsibilities of the medical profession, ensuring they are well-equipped to diagnose, treat, and manage patients effectively. MBBS is one of the most sought-after courses for candidates aiming to become doctors. Unlike other courses, MBBS is not offered in Diploma or Correspondence mode, owing to its rigorous curriculum and practical lessons on anatomy and other subjects taught in MBBS.
The MBBS course typically has nine semesters and is divided into three phases – Pre Clinical, Para Clinical and Clinical. The semesters are divided into various subjects and the pedagogy combines theoretical and practical classes. After completing their 5.5-year MBBS course, all Medical graduates must undergo a compulsory rotating medical internship (CRMI) for at least twelve months. Only after completing the internship can candidates become eligible for the award of the MBBS degree, as per the requirements of the respective Medical Universities.
To be eligible for the MBBS course, candidates must have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English individually, and obtained a minimum of 50% marks combined in the aforementioned subjects, as per the Regulations of NMC and DCI. Additionally, they must have a rank in the merit list of NEET UG for MBBS admission.
