Summer Fields School, Kailash Colony on Thursday barred its students of Class 9 to 12, who took a day/s off between May 8 and 10, 2023, to write the unit test scheduled for today. Many parents gathered at school protesting the action. The school stated that the intent of this action was to inculcate discipline in students.

Summer Fields School, Kailash Colony barred its students of classes 9 till 12 to write their Unit Test (UT) today. The UTs, that began today, are scheduled on all weekdays till May 18 without any preparatory leaves. The school informed that it barred students from appearing in the exam if they took leave for one/ two/ three days between May 8 and 10.

On May 2, the school issued a circular stating that if any child is absent for a period of three or more days prior to any exam will be withheld from writing the exam. The screenshot of the circular is shared below:

On Wednesday night, around 9:30 pm, a mail was received in the school’s app, Edunext, stating that the students who did not attend their school on any day from Monday till Wednesday (between May 8 and 10) shall be barred from writing the exam and should not report to the school the next day. The screenshot of the circular is shared below:

This enraged parents and scared students as they feared getting zero score or marked absent in one of the subjects. Parents accused school of the recklessness as it did not abide by the circular issued earlier.

On May 11, these students were asked to sit in a separate room and barred from writing the exam. The school reasoned that it intended to teach discipline to students, as it was observed that students were consistently irregular in attending the school.

Parents held a protest outside the school premises. Later, Police was called on the spot and a meeting with the school principal was arranged. The school authorities later informed that the exam was cancelled for today and will be held for these students the next week. They also shared that a circular regarding the same will be issued today.
