The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has launched a new programme, Master of Arts by Research (MA Res) under the humanities and social sciences department. The course has been designed to develop research skills in learners that are important skills in both academia and the workplace.
The IIT Bombay MA research programme is a two-year programme with an intake of up to a maximum of 20 seats. The programme is scheduled to begin in July 2022 and includes three broad specialisations such as human sciences, linguistics, literature and performance, and sociology. The admissions to the IIT Bombay MA research programme is based on the GATE-XH paper, MAAT admissions test and interview, said the institute in a statement.
Under the MA programme, "students will learn to integrate diverse sources of information, learn to read, think and write critically, and learn to apply conceptual, analytical and methodological frameworks," said the statement. Also read | SSC CGL 2022 exam starts today; Know guidelines, timing The programme includes common courses in the first semester, and students get to choose different other courses after the first semester to support disciplinary crossovers and to facilitate a student-driven approach. “IIT Bombay emphasises strong analytical skill development among students in all academic programmes. The proposed M.A.Res. will additionally strengthen the learning-by-doing concept amongst the entrants in the new programme,” said the director of IIT Bombay, professor Subhasis Chaudhuri.
“The Department is looking forward to the new programme especially given its potential for interdisciplinary teaching and the opportunity to train a new cohort of students in research,” said professor Kushal Deb, head of HSS department.
