IIT Kharagpur merges with Kolkata-based startup to encourage manufacturing

The Centre of Excellence in Advanced Manufacturing Technology, IIT Kharagpur is roping in MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises) for collaborative research and development projects and consultancy to develop resources for Industry 4.0.

The centre is currently funded by the Department of Heavy Industry of Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kolkata-based startup Hemraj Infocom to promote industrial consultancy and industrial research student internships, as per a statement released by IITKGP.

Professor Surjya K Pal, facility at IITKGP said that with Hemraj they will be mentoring the students in manufacturing the applications in which our centre has got a strong foothold. Pal said that they will also provide them with free training on cutting-edge industrial applications, research solutions for their typical industrial challenges such as cloud computing, real-time data processing, analysis and storage along with networking and automation, real-time process monitoring.

IITKGP's Centre of Excellence has been conducting several industry-aligned workshops, short-term courses, talks by the industry experts for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and capital goods sector in areas including computer numerical controls, composite manufacturing and metallography.

Expressing his enthusiasm over the collaboration, Hemraj Infocom’s Head of Business Development said that mission-critical projects from IITKGP which will enable them to deliver proof of concept and projects thereby implementing niche areas of Research and Development in the business operation.
