With just 11 days remaining until the JEE Advanced 2024 exam, candidates need to strategise their preparation effectively. Understanding the minimum marks required to pass the exam is an essential aspect of this strategy. Check below.
IIT Madras has set specific thresholds for passing the JEE Advanced 2024 exam for different categories. General candidates need to achieve a minimum aggregate of 35% marks, while GEN-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates require 31.5%. For all other categories, the threshold is 17.5%. Additionally, minimum aggregate percentage marks are required in each subject - Maths, Physics and Chemistry to pass the exam. General candidates need to score 10% or above in each subject, while GEN-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates need 9% or above. For all other categories, the requirement is 5% or above.

Therefore, aiming for at least 35% marks is advisable for a safe score in JEE Advanced 2024. However, these passing criteria get adjusted after the results, influenced by factors such as exam difficulty, total marks, candidate turnout, and available IIT seats.
JEE Advanced 2024 admit card will be issued on May 17 and the exam will be held on May 26, Sunday. There will be two papers in the exam, and to pass the exam, candidates have to appear for both papers compulsorily.

Note that the final cutoff percentile and marks change every year as the total marks in JEE Advaced 2024 vary with each year. The total marks are not revealed beforehand, but only on the exam day. The marking scheme differs too each year. The factors like these make JEE Advanced more challenging to crack.
Candidates aspiring for BTech admission in the IITs must secure a minimum of 75% marks in their Class 12 board exams. However, for SC, ST, and PwD candidates, the required minimum aggregate marks are 65%. Failing to meet this criterion renders passing the JEE Advanced exam futile for securing admission to the IITs.
