Delhi HC likely to hear plea seeking relaxation of criteria for JEE Advanced 2023 today
The plea has been moved by 67 students who are Class 12 pass outs of 2021 who could not use their opportunity of JEE Advanced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Delhi High court is likely to hear a petition seeking relaxation for JEE Advanced aspirants today (March 23, 2022). The petition has been filed by 67 students seeking a relaxation in the JEE Advanced criterion of "Two attempts in Two consecutive years" to the students who did not appear in the JEE (Advanced) twice or even once yet in the preceding years 2021 and 2022 be allowed to appear in the JEE (Advanced) 2023. None of the petitioners has availed the two attempts in two consecutive years in the preceding years.
The case will be heard by Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav. On March 7, the Delhi High Court had issued a notice to the Central Government and other respondents and sought a response to the plea seeking relaxation within two weeks.
Earlier in 2022, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) had allowed the 2020 Class XII batch to appear for JEE Advanced 2022 due to the effect of the pandemic. Students are demanding similar relaxation this year and have approached the court.
“It is submitted that the petitioner’s 12th (or equivalent) board examinations were either cancelled or were affected by the coronavirus pandemic. It is further submitted that in the JEE Examinations of 2021 and 2022 the candidates were exempted from their performance in the board examinations ahead of passing them. Hence hereby it is requested that the above requested relaxation be provided along with relief from the Clause 26 in the Information Brochure of JEE (Advanced) 2023 “Performance in Class XII (or Equivalent) Board Examination for admission to IITs”, the petition stated.
