Dominican Republic Vice President Raquel Pena Rodriguez visits IIT Delhi

During her visit to IIT Delhi, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Dominican Republic and IIT Delhi signed an agreement for academic collaboration.

Dominican Republic Vice President Raquel Pena Rodriguez visited Indian Institute Of Technology Delhi. She also interacted with startups at the Institute's Research and Innovation Park.

"Her Excellency Ms. Raquel Peña Rodríguez, Vice President of the Dominican Republic, visited #IITDelhi on October 4, 2023. During her visit, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Dominican Republic and IIT Delhi signed an #MoU for academic collaboration," reads a tweet by IIT Delhi.

Under the MoU, students from the Dominican Republic will get fully funded scholarships from their government to study at IIT Delhi in Masters and PhD programmes offered by the Institute.

Raquel Pena Rodriguez visit to India: More Details

She is on a three-day visit to India at the invitation of her Indian counterpart Jagdeep Dhandkhar. Today is the last day of her visit. 

She also met the President of India Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday. At this meeting, President Murmu emphasized that capacity building is one of the central pillars of Indian Dominican Republic cooperation.

"She was happy to note that recently, India has organized two Special Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) training courses for Dominican Republic officials, in the critical fields of cyber security and remote sensing," the President's Secretariat said in a statement, as reported by TOI.

She further stressed that the bilateral relations between the two countries are warm and friendly, "anchored on the strong foundation of shared values of democracy, and a broad convergence of views on global issues."
