The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) to embark on a journey of collaborative exploration in the realms of technical education and research. This strategic partnership is underscored by a shared vision to advance knowledge and innovation, with a particular emphasis on addressing pressing global health challenges.

Central to this collaboration is the concerted effort towards the development of a vaccine for tuberculosis prevention, a crucial endeavour in combating a disease that continues to pose significant threats to public health worldwide. By pooling together the expertise and resources of both institutions, the aim is to accelerate the pace of research and development, ultimately striving towards the creation of an effective and accessible solution for tuberculosis prevention.

The partnership between IIT-Bhubaneswar and ILS signifies a broader commitment to fostering an enriched ecosystem for research in the life sciences. This collaborative synergy is poised to yield multifaceted benefits, extending beyond tuberculosis prevention to encompass a spectrum of health-related challenges. Through joint endeavours in research and education, the aim is to cultivate a transformative impact, ultimately contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge and the betterment of human health.

The special focus towards developing the vaccine for tuberculosis prevention will boost the efforts being made towards this end, ILS Director Debasis Dash said. The collaboration intends to bring about excellence in technical education, particularly in the fields of biological sciences, molecular biology and microbiology, the officials said.

As per PTI reports, “This MoU between the two premier institutions of India will not only bring transformation in research in the field of biological sciences but also help Odisha in creating a benchmark in this domain in future,” Dash said.
