The National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited (NICDC), under Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, and the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (FITT-IITD), entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The purpose of this agreement is to assess the best locations for establishing Greenfield Industrial Smart Cities across India, utilising the principles and framework provided by the PM GatiShakti initiative.
This partnership signifies an important step forward in employing cutting-edge technology and research to enhance India's industrial infrastructure. It also allows both organisations to capitalise on each other's expertise in their specific fields.
NICDC and FITT-IITD have signed a MoU to identify suitable sites for establishing greenfield industrial smart cities in India, utilising the spatial and analytical capabilities of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan portal. This effort is in line with India's ambition to become a leading global manufacturing centre, highlighting the role of data-driven decisions in the sustainable and forward-thinking development of urban areas.
The MoU stipulates that FITT-IITD will utilise its technological expertise and research capacities to examine several elements affecting the ideal choice of location. This includes factors such as business convenience, cost of living, transportation expenses, various modes of connectivity, quality of life index, living expenses, industry-specific potential, availability of raw materials, and sustainability considerations.
The detailed report generated from this partnership will act as a foundational guideline for upcoming urban planning initiatives, enabling the creation of new cities designed to accommodate the changing demands of both the industry and the broader community.
