IIT Delhi’s IHFC and ITU Team Up to Host 'Robotics for Good Youth Challenge'
IHFC has been designated as the national organizer for the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge 2024-2025 in India
IIT Delhi's Innovation Hub for Future Cities (IHFC), in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is set to orchestrate the inaugural 'Robotics for Good Youth Challenge' in India this October. This initiative marks the first-ever hosting of the UN-affiliated educational robotics championship in the country.
IHFC has been designated as the national organizer for the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge 2024-2025 in India. This global initiative, led by ITU as part of AI for Good, aims to harness the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) towards impactful action on a global scale. As the UN's specialized agency for information and communication technologies, ITU plays a pivotal role in driving technological innovations for societal progress.
The event presents a unique opportunity for Indian students to showcase their prowess in robotics on an international platform. With a focus on addressing challenges in disaster management, participants will be tasked with developing robotic solutions aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The challenge, tailored for two age groups - Junior (Class 6th-8th) and Senior (9th-12th), underscores the importance of leveraging robotics for humanitarian causes. It emphasizes solutions targeting natural disasters such as earthquakes, seismic risk prediction, and soil and subsurface studies, with the primary aim of enhancing disaster response capabilities to mitigate their impact effectively.
IHFC will spearhead the organization of the India Qualifying Tournament scheduled for October 17, 2024, at the International Exhibition Convention Centre, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. This tournament serves as a stepping stone towards the Grand Finale, slated to take place in Geneva during the AI for Good Global Summit 2025.
Aligned with its commitment to advancing robotics for societal good, IHFC will provide guidance and support to participants, nurturing innovation in disaster management solutions. The collaboration between IHFC and ITU offers a global platform for young minds to delve into robotics while gaining invaluable insights and expertise from IHFC's extensive knowledge in the field.
