Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi successfully completed the STEM Mentorship Programme for 32 high school girls. On November 30, 2023, the Office of Academic Outreach and New Initiatives held a felicitation ceremony to celebrate these students. Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, actively engaged in conversations with the accomplished participants during the event. The STEM Mentorship Programme for second batch was launched to mark the 8th International Day for Women and Girls in Science.

The mentorship programme was held in two phases. During the initial phase, conducted on weekends throughout March and April, chosen students from schools in Delhi-NCR received firsthand exposure to IIT Delhi's facilities. This involved insightful visits to various research facilities on campus.

In the second phase, a week-long STEM workshop took place in May. The participants received specialized insights from IIT Delhi faculty members and research scholars across diverse academic units, focusing on emerging areas of study. This phase also granted participants practical, hands-on experiences within various laboratory settings.

While speaking about the second batch of the STEM Mentorship Programme, Prof. Subodh V. Sharma, Associate Dean, Academic Outreach and New Initiatives, IIT Delhi, said, β€œThe STEM Mentorship Program for high school girls underscores our commitment to empowering young female minds in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The program has made substantial progress, with around 20 impressive lectures delivered between the years 2021 and 2023”.

The inaugural STEM Mentorship Program was launched in December 2021. Whereas, the first batch of 10 school girls successfully completed it in June 2022.

The faculty members includes Prof. Pritha Chandra (former Associate Dean, Academic Outreach and New Initiatives), Prof. Soumik Siddhanta (Coordinator, STS Lecture Series), Prof. Divya Nayar (Coordinator, STEM Mentorship Program), and Prof. Jay Dhariwal (Coordinator, Change Makers Summer Boot Camp).
