IIT Dhanbad: Admissions open for Ph.D. programme; Apply by Oct 30

A candidate, who has qualified GATE/NET/Appropriate National Level Examination, is ELIGIBLE for Ph.D. admission ONLY in Engineering, Science, Management Studies and Humanities and Social Sciences under the IA. A candidate who has qualified CAT/GMAT is eligible for a Ph.D. in Management under the IA.

All candidates seeking admission to the PhD program (full-time, IA OR sponsored) in the institute must apply online through the admission portal of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad at https://www.iitism.ac.in/index.php/Admission.

Following are the important instructions while applying for the course:

• Before applying please complete the registration step.
• After your registration is complete, you will receive an email on your registered email-id for verification. Please verify your email.
• Use your Registration Number to login to the application portal.
• Read the instructions carefully.
• Start your application using the “Apply” tab.
• Fill in all the details. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory.You may write "NA" if you are not able to provide the corresponding data. Please keep pdf files for all documents for your credentials like marksheets, degree certificates, category certificates, etc. ready. They are required to be uploaded before completion of the submission.
• Click on submit and save a PDF copy of your completed application. It will be required during the admission process.

Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. at IIT Dhanbad

Essential criteria for Ph.D. in Engineering:

• An applicant must have a Master’s degree in Engineering in the relevant subject with first class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale),OR
• An applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 70% marks/CGPA of 7.0 (on a 10 point scale), as per Table 6. OR
• An applicant must have a Master’s degree in Science or an allied area with first-class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale).

Essential criteria for Ph.D. in Science:

• An applicant must have a Master’s degree in the relevant subject with first class/division or a minimum of 60 % marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10-point scale), OR
• An applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 70% marks/CGPA of 7.0 (on a 10 point scale), as per Table 6. OR
• An applicant must have a Master’s degree in Science or an allied area with first-class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale).

Essential criteria for Ph.D. in Humanities and Social Sciences 

• An applicant must have a Master’s degree in the relevant subject, Arts, Commerce, Humanities and Social Sciences with first class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale), OR
• An applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 70% marks/CGPA of 7.0 (on a 10 point scale), as per Table 6. OR
• An applicant must have a Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Science / Commerce / Management with first class/division or a minimum of 60 % marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale).

Essential criteria for Ph.D. in Management 

• An applicant must have a Master’s degree or equivalent in Management or allied areas or Engineering / Technology with first class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale), OR
• An applicant with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 70% marks/7.0 CGPA, OR
• An applicant must have a Master’s degree in Science / Arts / Commerce with first-class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale), OR
• An applicant who has qualified for CA/ICAI/ICMA/CS, with first-class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) in Bachelor’s degree.
