The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati strengthened its international ties by entering into four Memorandums of Understanding with distinguished global academic entities. This initiative marks a substantial stride in promoting the exchange of knowledge through formal agreements with Dalhousie University in Canada and Gifu University in Japan. These collaborations are set for a duration of five years, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement.
Highlights of Agreement With Two Universities
MoU with Dalhousie University, Canada, to establish Joint Doctoral Program
This pioneering partnership initiates joint doctoral programs to boost collaborative research between scholars and students from both institutions. Through student and academic staff exchanges, joint research projects, and sharing of materials, it seeks to create an academic setting ripe for breakthroughs and scholarly excellence. Furthermore, the co-supervision of PhD candidates will provide varied insights and skills, improving the educational experience and research quality.
3 MoUs with Gifu University, Japan, for International Joint PhD Program
IIT Guwahati and Gifu University have launched an 'International Joint PhD Program' lasting three years. It features a jointly designed curriculum, providing students with a holistic education. Scholars will receive guidance from faculty at both institutions during their dissertations. Research will be assessed by experts from both universities, ensuring high academic standards and fostering innovation.
IIT Guwahati has further collaborated with Gifu University to establish a ‘Glocal Expert Program,’ an international joint-certificate initiative under the Inter-University Exchange Project (IUEP). This program enables students to obtain certification from both universities as exchange students, fostering cross-cultural learning and enhancing global competencies.
The collaborations were formalized at the 'Japan-NER Bioeconomic Technology Cooperation Symposium 2024' (JNBTCS 2024), a 3-day event held by IIT Guwahati from March 3 to 5, 2024.JNBTCS-2024 focuses on advancing bio-economic growth in Japan and NER through key technical discussions, including invited talks and poster sessions.
The event highlights the impact of international collaboration in education on societal progress, covering topics like food supply chains, sustainable technology, disaster management, and bamboo biomass utilization in NER. It gathers prominent researchers, industry experts, entrepreneurs, and upcoming scholars from India and Japan, offering a venue for debate on the present and future of bio-economic development.
