IIT Kanpur offers free course on unmanned aerial vehicles
The course is best suited for UG and PG students who have a basic knowledge of aerodynamics. Those who wish to obtain certificates will have to pay Rs 1,000 and take an examination on October 24, 2021.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur is conducting a free online course on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) through the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) platform. The online course called design of fixed-wing UAV is an eight-week course and is free of cost. The programme began on August 23, 2021, and will go on till October 15, 2021. The course is most suited for undergraduate and postgraduate students who have a basic knowledge of aerodynamics. Those who wish to obtain certificates will have to pay Rs 1,000 and take an examination on October 24, 2021. Candidates will only get e-certificates as no hard copies will be issued.
The course will be conducted by Dr Subrahmanyam Saderla who has a BTech in aeronautical engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad in 2008, MTech and PhD in aerospace engineering from IIT Kanpur during 2010 and 2015, respectively.
What all will be taught during the course
- Introduction to fixed-wing UAVs, design, and basic design parameters.
- Design Algorithm: Case study, and design algorithm: mission requirements.
- Feasible design parameters, and configuration layout: Airfoil selection, configuration layout: Planform geometry selection.
- Weight and CG estimation, analytical parameter estimation, and analytical parameter estimation.
- Performance and stability analysis, simulation and detailed sising.
