IIT Kharagpur Responds to Viral Startup Founder Tweet with Confidentiality Call in Recruitment
IIT Kharagpur has responded to a viral tweet of an Indian-origin startup founder who slammed the IIT alumnus for sharing a false resume while applying for a job role in his company. Check details here
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has stated on X (formerly Twitter) regarding a recent viral tweet of Startup founder Angad Daryani who claimed that a candidate from one of India's top institutes had applied for a job at his company and he did know about 95% of the things he mentioned in his resume. The tweet went viral and many media outlets covered this incident.
Soon after this IIT Kharagpur tweeted, "This is indeed very unfortunate for young entrepreneurs maligning Institutes of National Importance with misleading/erroneous facts." The tweet also stated that recruitment should be private and help encourage people to grow and get better in their careers.
According to IIT Kharagpur, the candidate was from IIT Kanpur. Later, the startup founder mentioned in a tweet that the post had been removed because the conversation had shifted towards criticising IITs, diverging from its original purpose.
He also mentioned in his tweet that, "With regards to the candidate, it was my slip up looking at the IITK email address, the candidate was from the Kanpur campus and not Kharagpur campus, nonetheless we still spoke with him, have encouraged him to clean up his resume, learn few more things and write back to us to be re-evaluated as a mechanical engineer and not a mix of every engineer - I spoke with him personally."
IIT Placement Trends
In the 2023-24 academic year, the IITs have seen a slower hiring market. As per IE reports, the IITs reveal that the first phase of the placement session was not up to the mark. This time, many engineering colleges, including BITS Pilani, reached out to the alumni community for the second session of the placement season. IIT placements are conducted in two phases: the first phase in December and the second phase between January and June.
