IIT Roorkee: A 20-year-old student, in her third year of BTech, hailing from Hyderabad ended her life in her hostel room at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. She was a student of the institute's biosciences and bioengineering department. As per the TOI report, the unfortunate incident occurred in her room at the Himalayan Bhawan hostel and was discovered 3-4 days later.
The situation came to light on Sunday when other hostelites began to notice an unpleasant odour coming from her room. Alarmed by the persistent foul smell, the hostel inmates promptly alerted the authorities to investigate the source of the disturbing scent.
No Blame in Suicide Note
Upon receiving reports of foul smell, police arrived at the scene and were compelled to forcibly enter the room by breaking down the door. Inside, they discovered her body alongside a suicide note penned in Telugu. The note revealed a poignant message where she assumed full responsibility for her decision to end her life. She explicitly stated that no one else was at fault for her actions, absolving friends, family, and acquaintances of any blame in her tragic demise.
A senior police officer provided insights into the background of the case, suggesting that the student had been grappling with emotional turmoil as a result of her parents' divorce, which occurred a few years prior. As per the TOI reports, "It appears that she was dealing with emotional stress due to her parents' separation a few years ago," a senior police officer said.
