IIT Ropar PhD Admission for January 2025 Intake Starts; Apply Till September 23

GATE exam is used as a selection criteria for admission to the MTech programme at IIT Ropar. To be eligible for the GATE exam the aspring candidate need a minimum of 60% aggregate in their graduation. The GATE score remains valid for a period of three years, and it is widely recognised and accepted by numerous institutes and organizations for the purposes of admission and recruitment. Following the GATE examination, the CCMT (Centralized Counselling for MTech/MArch/MPlan) counselling process is conducted for admission to MTech courses at IIT Ropar. Subsequently, the final step involves participating in the COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) counselling for further course allocation. 

The admission process at IIT Ropar varies depending on the programme of interest. Here is an overview of the admission process for the BTech and MTech programmes:

BTech Programme:

• Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must have a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in their class 12 (or equivalent) examination. They should also qualify for the JEE Main exam. Candidates need to appear for the JEE Main, which is conducted at the national level. The exam assesses the candidates' knowledge in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
• JEE Advanced: Those who qualify in the JEE Main are eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced exam. The JEE Advanced evaluates the candidates' problem-solving skills and their understanding of concepts in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
• Counselling: Based on the JEE Advanced scores, candidates are invited for counseling and seat allocation. The final selection is based on merit, which takes into account the JEE Advanced scores and the candidate's class 12 performance.

MTech Programme:

• Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must have a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in their qualifying degree (BTech or BE). They should also qualify for the GATE exam.
• GATE Exam: Candidates need to appear for the GATE exam, which is a national-level examination that tests candidates' understanding of their undergraduate engineering subjects.
• Shortlisting and Interview: Based on the GATE scores, candidates are shortlisted for further selection processes, which may include written tests, interviews, or both. The final selection is based on the candidate's performance in these stages.

IIT Ropar offers admission to its four-year BTech course through a valid score in JEE followed by JoSAA counseling. Candidates can apply for the respective exams and after clearing the examination, proceed with the seat allotment process. The seat allotment process is done through a computerized process called the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). Candidates are allotted seats based on their rank, preferences, and availability of seats. The candidates who are allotted seats will have to report to the allotted institute for document verification and to confirm their seats.
