IIT Madras announced the results of the JEE (Advanced) 2024 on June 9. Among the 180,200 candidates who appeared, 48,248 qualified, including 7,964 female candidates. One standout performer is Aditya, a student of FIITJEE Punjabi Bagh, who secured All India Rank (AIR) 2 and emerged as the Delhi Topper. In an exclusive interview with Shiksha.com, Aditya shared his journey and success strategies.

Q: Congratulations on your result! What was your reaction when you came to know about your rank?

Aditya: Thank you! I was overjoyed and a bit overwhelmed. It was a moment of pure excitement and relief after years of hard work and dedication.

Q: When and how did you decide to pursue B.Tech?

Aditya: From an early stage in my schooling, I had a strong inclination towards science, particularly Physics, which naturally led me to consider engineering. Presently, I am considering either pursuing a career as a researcher or a software engineer. Knowing early on that I wanted to get into IIT, I was very clear about my goal. Consequently, I enrolled in the 4-year classroom program at FIITJEE Punjabi Bagh to systematically prepare for this path.

Q: Tell us something about your family, schooling, etc.

Aditya: I come from a supportive family that always encouraged my educational pursuits. I studied at DLDAV School in Pitampura, where my teachers and peers greatly influenced my learning journey. I have an elder sister who is currently pursuing Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi. Her experience and guidance were invaluable throughout my JEE preparation. My parents have been incredibly supportive and motivated me at every step. Their unwavering encouragement and belief in my abilities have been a constant source of strength.

Q: When did you start preparing for JEE Advanced and what was the strategy?

Aditya: I began my JEE Advanced preparation in Class XI but joined FIITJEE towards the end of Class VIII to build a solid foundation so that I could grasp advanced concepts later. FIITJEE's regular tests and doubt-clearing sessions helped me analyze my performance and optimize my speed and accuracy, which was crucial on the final exam day.

Q: What were your strong and weak areas?

Aditya: I had a solid foundation in Mathematics and Science from an early age, which helped me grasp advanced concepts quickly. Participation in Olympiads and competitive exams further enhanced my problem-solving abilities and time management skills. However, certain topics posed challenges, particularly Organic Chemistry. To overcome these difficulties, I sought help from FIITJEE faculty and practiced extensively. The faculty's guidance was invaluable, especially through regular discussions to clear doubts. Additionally, staying consistent with my studies was challenging, but setting small, achievable goals and rewarding myself upon completion kept me motivated.

Q: Which books did you refer to for JEE?

Aditya: For JEE Advanced and Physics Olympiad, I found "Krotov" to be an excellent resource. The FIITJEE study material was my primary resource and proved to be the best for my preparation. The FIITJEE curriculum is meticulously designed to comprehensively cover the JEE syllabus. Regular tests and quizzes played a crucial role in assessing my understanding of each topic. Furthermore, the faculty at FIITJEE were exceptionally supportive and always available to clarify any doubts I had.

Q: How did you balance your JEE preparation along with your school and board exams?

Aditya: Time management was the key to maintaining this balance successfully. I focused on organizing my schedule efficiently.

Q: What was your exam-taking strategy?

Aditya: My exam-taking strategy involved dedicating six hours each day to self-study, with flexibility based on various factors. For instance, on holidays, I would extend my self-study time, whereas on school test days, I prioritized productive study sessions. To maintain focus and productivity, I took a five-minute break after every hour of studying.

Q: During your rigorous preparation journey, how did you unwind yourself?

Aditya: To unwind, I occasionally went for walks in the park and indulged in coding, which I enjoy.

Q: Which is your dream college and course?

Aditya: My dream is to take Computer Science in either IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi because it aligns closely with my interests and aspirations.

Q: What are your plans after completing B.Tech?

Aditya: After completing B.Tech, I am keen on delving into research in Quantum Physics and leveraging my expertise to contribute to pioneering projects and advancements in the field. Presently, I am considering either pursuing a career as a researcher or a software engineer.

Q: Your suggestion for next year’s JEE Advanced takers?

Aditya: Stay consistent and focused throughout your preparation. Practice regularly. Balancing your studies with breaks is crucial to avoid burnout. Have faith in yourself, identify areas where you can improve, be regular in your practice, take tests, analyze them thoroughly, and develop a strong examination temperament. Always stay positive and motivated. Focus on building a solid understanding of basic concepts, solve problems regularly, and take mock tests to enhance your speed and accuracy. Give your best in the exam.
