Any student who is residing in flood-hit parts of Maharashtra's Vidarbha region who is not able to reach to the exam centre or reaches late can apply to the National Testing Agency to seek a re-examination

The Bombay High Court has refused the plea seeking a stay on holding JEE Main exam, that begun today, i.e. September 1, 2020, across the country, and said that any student who is residing in flood-hit parts of Maharashtra's Vidarbha region who is not able to reach to the exam centre or reaches late can apply to the National Testing Agency to seek a re-examination.

The petition was filed by a group of aspirants who were seeking relief in the form of postponement of the examination due to the prevailing flood situation in the state. The plea said that students residing in flood-affected areas will not be able to reach their respective examination centres in time owing to the prevailing situation. However, the Bombay High Court’s Nagpur Bench has dismissed the plea and allowed the conduct of the national-level medical and engineering entrance exams as per the schedule.

A division bench of Justices Ravi Deshpande and Pushpa Ganediwala said the National Testing Agency (NTA) shall consider such applications and decide accordingly, after checking the veracity of the same.

The engineering Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2020 began at 9 am today in 660 test centres across the country and 9 cities abroad.

"The situation is grim in several districts due to flood. Students should not suffer for no fault on their part. Any aggrieved students can file an application to the NTA via their centre coordinator. The National Testing Agency shall then decide on the application after consulting with the district collector concerned within a period of 15 days," the court-ordered.
