MIT-IIT Kanpur Seed Fund introduced for research collaboration

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)-IIT Kanpur Seed Fund has been introduced. 

Another exceptional initiative for collaboration between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and India making greater strides in Indo-US collaboration, said Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur. 

MIT-IIT Kanpur Seed Fund will enable research collaboration between the faculty of IIT Kanpur and MIT. This collaboration sets a milestone, making IIT Kanpur the first Indian institution to enter such a partnership with MIT, which has similar funding initiatives in over 40 countries globally.

The application process is now open for groundbreaking research projects & collaborations. Faculty and research scientists from other institutions in India are also encouraged to participate as co-applicants. The application deadline is December 12, 2023. This initiative has been possible due to generous contributions from Mr. Sudhakar Kesavan (BT/CHE/76), an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and MIT. 

Mr. Kesavan has also generously contributed to the establishment of the Chandrakanta Kesavan Center for Energy Policy and Climate Solutions at IIT Kanpur.

MIT-IIT Kanpur Seed Fund is an annual fund that promotes exchange between faculty and students at MIT and IIT Kanpur, also calls for proposals. The proposals from faculty and research scientists at (other) Indian institutions are eligible to be co-applicants on a proposal.

MIT-India seeks to partner with faculty and research scientists at Indian research institutions (with preference for projects between MIT and IIT Kanpur) to support early-stage projects and research collaborations, with grants available up to 30,000 USD. Seed funds support travel and start-up research costs for exchange between a team at MIT and Indian colleagues abroad.
