Need to promote scientific temper among youth: IIT Patna Director

The institute celebrated National Science Day to commemorate the work of Indian physicist CV Raman in the field of light scattering, popularly known as the Raman Effect.

Prof TN Singh, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna, said there is a need to raise awareness on the importance of science among the youth and promote scientific temperament among them. He said this at an event organised to mark National Science Day (NSD). The event was organised to commemorate the work of Indian physicist CV Raman in the field of light scattering, popularly known as the Raman Effect.

On the occasion, IIT Patna Director TN Singh spoke on this year’s NSD theme: ‘Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future’ and stressed on the need to raise awareness on the importance of science among the youth. Tarasankar Pal, former professor in the Department of Chemistry, IIT Kharagpur, delivered a lecture on Sensational Application of Raman Effect’, while Prof AK Thakur gave an introductory lecture, Prof Preetam Kumar proposed a vote of thanks. The event saw participation of faculty members and students of IIT Patna. 

IIT Patna resumes offline classes  

Meanwhile, offline classes of second-year BTech and first-year MTech students have already started. Students of other classes have been asked to continue in online mode for the time being. 

Why National Science Day is celebrated on Feb 28? 

CV Raman had discovered the famous ‘Raman Effect’ on February 28, 1928, and was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930. Since 1987, this day has been celebrated as Science Day to create a scientific temper among the youth.
