NIT Andhra Pradesh set to welcome freshers to new campus

Built at a cost of INR 438 crore, the permanent campus of NIT Andhra Pradesh is constructed using prefabrication construction technology for which it has received a platinum rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). 

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Andhra Pradesh is all set to welcome freshers to its new 174-acre campus in Tadepalligudem, West Godavari district. As per a report published in The Telegraph, built at a cost of INR 438 crore, the permanent campus of NIT Andhra Pradesh is constructed using prefabrication construction technology for which it has received a platinum rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The institute is currently offering BTech, MTech, PhD and MS programmes. 

NIT Andhra Pradesh Director CSP Rao said, “Of all the new NITs, we are the only one to have completed our own building blocks and hostels. I am waiting to see the academic blocks filled with students. I hope to welcome our new batch here for offline classes.” 

Former Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ virtually inaugurated the newly constructed various buildings of NIT Andhra Pradesh under Phase-1A in October 2020. The construction of the building was started only in October 2018. The facilities at the NIT Andhra Pradesh new campus include canteens and a student recreation centre, with several rooms housing all 17 existing clubs and having provision for more clubs to come up.  

The Director said, “As many as 2,300 students can be easily accommodated at our new hostel. These include 150 PG and 150 PhD students. We have the provision of accommodating 1,000 girls and 1,500 boys at the hostel.” The institute is now waiting for an approval for a proposal of INR 756 crore sent to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) for the second phase of infrastructure development.
