Delhi University new academic session starts with 64,288 admission
B. Com (Hons), B. Com, BA (Hons) Political Science, BA (Hons) Economics and BA (Hons) English are the top five programs most students have opted for at Delhi University this year.
The new academic session of University of Delhi started today, 16th August, in the first round Dyal Singh College, Hansraj College, Gargi College, Ramjas College and Kirori Mal College were the top five colleges in which maximum admissions were made.
DU Vice Chancellor, Prof Yogesh Singh extended best wishes to all the newly admitted students in undergraduate programmes. The Vice Chancellor called upon the students to go to the campus of their respective colleges without any worries. He said that it is a very pleasant experience for the students to come to their chosen colleges in the new session.
The Vice-Chancellor informed that in this academic session 2023-2024, a total of 64288 students have confirmed to have admission till August 15 at the conclusion of the second round of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS). Allocation was offered to 105426 students in the first and second round, out of which 64288 students have confirmed their admission.
The Vice Chancellor assured the new students that DU is a completely ragging free university. To avoid any untoward incident with any student, he called upon the senior students to give love and respect to the newly arrived students like younger siblings. Regarding women empowerment in the country, the Vice Chancellor said that the admission percentage of females in all colleges of DU has been more than half, which is a pleasant aspect. He said that the percentage of females who took admission is 53% while the percentage of males is 47%.
Colleges with highest admissions
Dean Admissions, University of Delhi, Prof. Haneet Gandhi shared information about the choice of colleges by the students in both the rounds. She said that in the first round, Dyal Singh College, Hansraj College, Gargi College, Ramjas College and Kirori Mal College were the top five colleges in which maximum admissions were made. She said that Swami Shraddhanand, Deshbandhu College and Zakir Hussain College were the top three colleges in the second round which got maximum admissions.

According to the total data received till August 15, the top five programs are of B. Com and B.A. streams in which maximum admissions have been taken. According to dean Admissions Prof. Haneet Gandhi, B. Com (Hons), B. Com, BA (Hons) Political Science, BA (Hons) Economics and BA (Hons) English are the top five programs most students have opted for.
30,627 chose freeze and 29,217 upgraded
Dean Admissions Prof. Haneet Gandhi said that in both the rounds, total 30627 candidates have opted to freeze their admission while 29217 candidates opted to upgrade. She said that the number of candidates who got their first preference was around 8010 while the number of candidates who got their second preference was around 5560.
