#ReopenDU: Delhi University students demand reopening of colleges, resumption of offline classes
Delhi University students demand reopening of the college campus and resumption of the physical classroom with a significant decline in COVID-19 cases.
With India achieving the 100 crore milestone in its COVID-19 inoculation drive, several students from Delhi University have now taken to social media handles demanding reopening of campus for offline classes. It must be noted that the Delhi University campus has been kept closed since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak and with the significant decline in the positive cases students now wish to return to the classroom for physical classes.
With Delhi University Admissions 2021 process underway, all those students who had joined the University in 2020 are now desperate to go to their respective colleges as they haven't even seen it yet. While many Central Universities have reopened their campus, Delhi University has still not made any announcement regarding the same. The DU administration had earlier reopened colleges for only final year students from September 15, and so far there have been no reported incidents related to COVID-19. This is now making students from other semesters anxious, as they feel that since most of them are now above 18 years of age, and a good percentage of them are fully inoculated against COVID-19.
The university and its colleges were opened for laboratory and practical work for final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students who were also allowed to attend these offline. In this phased reopening, the rooms are to be used only at 50% capacity and all theory classes will continue completely online.
Taking to Twitter, one of the students tweeted," The university has been shut for over a year, and Batch of '23 has attended classes online for over a year. Now that situation has been improved. Then Why is there a delay? Why are we not getting updates on the second phase reopening? #reopendu #Kab_Khulega_Du Survey results."
