Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that universities should not only prepare degree holder youth but give such an education system to the country, which can provide whatever human resources are needed for the country to move forward.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the three-day Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam being organized by the Ministry of Education in association with University Grants Commission (UGC) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
PM Modi while inaugurating Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam in Varanasi said in the new policy, that the entire focus is on making them skilled according to the talents and choices of the children. βOur youth should be skilled, confident, practical and calculative, education policy is preparing the ground for this: PM Modi said.
Talking about the National Education Policy (NEP) Modi said: βThe objective of National Education Policy is to take education out of narrow thinking and to integrate it with the modern ideas of the 21st century.β
NEP 2020: Not just a policy document
NEP was launched two years ago on July 29, 2020, to replace the three-decade-old policy. PM said that the NEP should not become a document and its recommendations should be implemented.
βWe should not only prepare degree holder youth but give our education system to the country, whatever human resources are needed for the country to move forward. This resolution has to be led by our teachers and educational institutions,β Modi said.
The Prime Minister urged vice-chancellors to prepare their universities for the future. The National Education Policy is now opening the way for studies in the mother tongue.
βIn this sequence, ancient Indian languages like Sanskrit are also being taken forward,β PM said.
PM stressed that for the new National Education Policy, work has also been done on a major infrastructure overhaul in the education sector of the country.
Modi said that a large number of institutions have opened up since 2014. PM said: βToday a large number of new colleges are opening in the country, new universities are opening, and new IITs and IIMs are being established.β There are several reforms instituted since the NEP came into existence. βRanking of Indian institutions have slowly but gradually in international rankings,β PM Modi said.
The Shiksha Samagam is being attended by academic, administrative and institutional leaders of various Indian Higher Education Institutions, academicians, research scholars, government officials, policymakers, thought leaders, professional and educational experts and industry experts.
The three-day program will comprise sessions on themes such as Multidisciplinary and Holistic Education, Skill Development and Employability, Indian Knowledge Systems, Internationalization of Education, Digital Empowerment and Online Education, Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Quality, Ranking and Accreditation, Equitable and Inclusive Education, Capacity Building of Teachers for Quality Education. An exhibition will be held on the various initiatives taken for the implementation of NEP 2020 including technical books in regional languages.
The Summit will initiate thought-provoking discussions, effectively articulate the roadmap and implementation strategies, foster knowledge exchange and build networks through interdisciplinary deliberations and discuss challenges being faced by educational institutions and articulate solutions.
The key highlight of the Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam will be the adoption of the Varanasi Declaration on Higher Education which will showcase Indiaβs extended vision and a renewed commitment to help achieve the goals of higher education system.
