IIM Visakhapatnam 11th convocation held offline after 2 years, 132 students get degrees

The 11th convocation ceremony of IIM Visakhapatnam was graced by Padma Bhushan Dr Naresh Trehan, the chairman and MD of Medanta as chief guest. 

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Vishakhapatnam conducted its sixth convocation recently. The management institute conducted the convocation ceremony via offline mode nearly after two years. The ceremony was graced by Padma Bhushan Dr Naresh Trehan, the chairman and MD of Medanta as chief guest. He, along with IIM-V director Professor M Chandrasekhar, and chairperson of IIM-V board of governors Hari S Bhartia awarded the certificates and gold medals to meritorious students of various programmes. The institute celebrated the convocation in offline mode after a gap of two years due to the pandemic.“If you are not a better person today than yesterday, 24 hours are wasted,” said Trehan while addressing the students.

Explaining his life journey to the graduating students, from his birth in Pakistan to how he landed in the US and trained in cardiac surgery, to how he changed the face of cardiac care in the country through Escorts Heart Institute and later with Medanta, Trehan said, “Arrogance and greed are two of the strongest enemies of human beings. There is no reason for arrogance, just a sequence of events takes you there. And so many icons have fallen down due to their greed.”

IIM-V director Professor Chandrasekhar spoke about the accomplishment of the institute in the last one year. “The present batch broke all previous placement records. The 36-faculty cohort is the highest among all contemporary IIMs in the country,” he informed.

IIM-V training 75 fellows under Mahatma Gandhi national fellowship programme

As part of Mahatma Gandhi national fellowship programme of the Union ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship, IIM-Vizag is training 75 fellows from 14 different states, who have been deputed to 75 districts in AP, Arunachal Pradesh, and Bihar.

“With a judicious blend of impressive credentials in academics, research and industry, our faculty ensure that our commitment remains steadfast to building human capital, endowed not only with competence and confidence, but also with character, compassion and good citizenship,” said Professor Chandrasekhar.
