APPSC IIT Bombay, an association of reserved category students have demanded Education Ministry intervene in the matter and force IIM Bangalore to recruit faculties under Mission Mode

An association of reserved category students have alleged that the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are not recruiting candidates belonging to the reserved category for teaching posts by using reasons like, ‘Not Found Suitable’.

As per data shared by Ambedkar Periyar Phule Study Circle (APPSC) IIT Bombay, IIM Bangalore announced recruitment for 12 posts (all categories combined that include SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS faculty posts) under the mission mode recruitment scheme of the Ministry of Education.

Replying to the question on the number of applications received in Mission Mode Faculty Recruitment for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS faculty posts till 20 May 2022, IIM Bangalore replied that the total number of applications received under the special recruitment effort was 113 candidates, (SC: 34, ST: 11, PwD: 10, OBC: 51, EWS: 7)

On being asked about the number of shortlisted candidates for interview in Mission Mode faculty posts till 20 May 2022, the institute informed that only one candidate belonging to the Scheduled Caste category was shortlisted. IIM Bangalore's reply states: “No. of shortlisted candidates under special recruitment effort for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD Categories: 7 (SC: 1, OBC: 4, PwD: 2)”.

No SC, ST selected

Another question was asked from IIM Bangalore on the number of recruited candidates from the SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS category, to which the institute replied that two candidates belonging to the OBC category were selected. There was no candidate selected from SC, ST or EWS (Economically Weaker Section) category.

APPSC IIT Bombay, an association of reserved category students have demanded Education Ministry to intervene in the matter and force IIM Bangalore to recruit faculties against the sanctioned posts for reserved category students. In a tweet, it stated: “Despite having enough applicants IIM Bangalore did not select a single SC, ST candidate in mission mode recruitment. @EduMinOfIndia should intervene, force them to recruit more candidates.”
