NEET PG Exam: Odisha directs medical colleges to publish MBBS, BDS results by March 31

Amid the ongoing NEET PG 2023 postponement demand and the request to re-visit the revised internship completion deadline, Odisha health and family welfare department has urged the higher education department of the state to instruct medical colleges to publish the final results of the MBBS and BDS exam before March 31, 2023, after the completion of exams.

As per the letter issued by the health department, early result publication can help students to start their internships before March 31 and they will not face any issues in becoming eligible for the next year's National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) - PG.

"It is observed that when the final MBBS/BDS examination and publication of results are delayed, the students are not able to complete the one year internship before March 31 in the said year for which they become ineligible to appear in the NEET and lose one year,” reads the letter, as reported by TOI.

Internship completion is mandatory criterion for appearing in NEET PG

Normally, the NEET PG internship completion deadline is fixed as March 31, and completing this internship is a mandatory criterion to appear for the NEET PG exam. This criterion is set by the Supreme Court and the National Medical Commission (NMC).

This year, for NEET PG 2023, the internship deadline is extended from March 31, 2023, to June 30, 2023, as more than half of the doctors were expected to be not eligible if it was to be conducted on the previous schedule. After the revised cut-off date also, there is a demand to extend it further as many interns are still expected to be not elligible for NEET PG 2023.
