Police officials conduct awareness session on 'Disha SoS' app at IIM Visakhapatnam

The session was attended by the IIMV staff and construction staff from the National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC), Arcop Associates Pvt Ltd, and Shapoorji Pallonji and Company Private Limited (SPCPL).

The Indian Institute of Management-Visakhapatnam’s permanent campus in Gambheeram organized an awareness session on the ‘Disha SoS’ app. The awareness session was conducted by the Anandapuram police on June 8, 2022. The technical services of Andhra Pradesh police has developed Disha SoS. Disha SoS is a safety app for emergency situations. During the awareness session, sub-inspector Narasimha Murthy and his team briefed the staff members of IIM Visakhapatnam about the various features and utilities of the app.

The session was attended by the IIMV staff and construction staff from the National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC), Arcop Associates Pvt Ltd, and Shapoorji Pallonji and Company Private Limited (SPCPL).

After getting an overview of the Disha SoS app, Head (projects), IIMV, R Sayikrishna Raju, said that the session was very beneficial. “The app provides an easy interface to help people in distress and can give an intimation to the nearest police station to get the immediate help,” Sayikrishna Raju told TOI.

For its permanent campus, The management institute has appointed Arcop Associates Pvt Ltd as the architect, NBCC (India) Ltd as the project management consultant and SPCPL as the construction agency. To spread awareness about the safety app Disha SoS, many students from the nearby colleges also volunteered for this initiative. They helped the site workers to install the mobile app and briefed them on its use when needed.

The institute has commenced classes for the senior students of its flagship Post Graduate Program (MBA) on June 6. Meanwhile, academic sessions for the freshers will be rolled out from its permanent campus. The campus is being constructed in Gambheeram in the fourth week of June. The institute is likely to shift second-year PGP students to the permanent campus only about a month after their juniors inhabit the Gambheeram campus.
