UGC Approves Marks for NET Scores for PhD Admissions from June Session 2024
UGC chairman announced the release of the UGC NET application form for the June cycle in the first week of April 2024 with an update on the use of UGC NET marks for enrollment as PhD scholars. Check the updates related to the UGC NET June 2024 session in the article.
UGC NET June 2024: The University Grants Commission updated the guidelines related to the use of marks scored by the candidates in the UGC NET JRF 2024. Now, the UGC has divided the use of marks in UGC NET into three categories: Ctaegory 1, Category 2, and Category 3. Amidst this latest update by the UGC, the chairman announced that the UGC NET June 2024 application form will be released in the first week of April 2024 (tentatively). The candidates will be able to apply for the UGC NET June 2024 exam on the official website- ugcnet.nta.ac.in.
Use of UGC NET Scores for PhD
The UGC divided the use of marks scored by the candidates in the UGC NET exam into three categories. The recent update will be applicable from the UGC NET June 2024 session. Check the complete details of the UGC NET update on regulations for pursuing PhD through UGC NET:
- Category 1: Candidates qualified with JRF will be eligible for the Junior Research Fellowship, Appointment as Assistant Professors, and Enrollment as PhD scholar.
- Category 2: Candidates qualified for NET will be eligible for Assistant Professorship and admission as PhD scholar
- Category 3: Based on the marks obtained by the candidates, the candidates will be allowed in the universities as a PhD scholar
Note: The candidates from Category 2 & 3 will have to go through an interview by the Universities to enroll as a PhD scholar. 70 per cent weightage will be given to the NET score and 30 per cent marks will be based on the interview.
How to Apply for UGC NET June Session 2024?
After the release of the UGC NET application form 2024, the candidates can apply for the exam by following the steps given below:

Visit the website- ugcnet.nta.nic.in

Click on the ‘Application form’ link mentioned at the bottom of the home page

Click on the ‘New Registration’

Enter the required details and complete the registration

Fill out the complete application form

Upload scanned pictures of passport size photo (10-200 kb) and signature (4-30 kb). Both images should be in JPEG format

Pay the UGC NET application fee (Gen - INR 1,150; OBC/EWS - INR 600; SC/ST/PwD/ Transgender - INR 325)

Save and submit the form
