Tripura govt writes to Union Education Minister to increase CUET exam centres

In a letter written to the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said that for the interest of the students of the state who want to pursue higher education, the central government should increase the number of centres for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) in the state.

The Chief Minister conveyed his gratitude for devising the CUET for the postgraduate aspirants in the country as this initiative will definitely bring more transparency in the process.

"However, it is felt that the number of allotted examination centres by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in the connection to the CUET for the stae of Tripura is inadequate. There are about 6000 aspirants in the state but only 3 centres have been allotted. Due to this, majority of the aspirants are forced to travel outside the state to attempt the examination," he said, as reported by Economic Times.

He also added that an adequate number of centres with sufficient infrastructure is available in the state to arrange such types of competitive examinations. Many examination centres of the state are being utilized for conducting other National Level examinations.

The state has already requested the Department of Higher Education from the Ministry of Education to increase the number of centres for the CUET aspirants of the state considering socio-economic condition and the geographical bottleneck faced by the state.

"Now, it is again requested to kindly look into the issue sympathetically and allot sufficient number of examination halls for the CUET aspirants of the state," he added.
