CDS 2025: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will conduct the CDS 1 2025 exam on April 13, 2025. The CDS 1 2025 application correction window was closed. The last date to apply was January 1, 2025 (extended). The CDS 2025 exam dates via annual UPSC calendar 2025 was released on the official website. According to the CDS exam dates, the CDS 1 notification 2025 was released on December 11, 2024. The CDS 1 application process 2025  was started on December 11, 2024

Q:   What is the exam pattern for CDS 2025 exam?

A:

The CDS exam pattern has been divided into two categories- Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA) and Air Force Academy (AFA) and Officers Training Academy (OTA). The exam taken for the IMA, INA, AFA is taken for three subjects- General Awareness, Mathematics and English. On the other hand, the OTA exam is taken for two subjects- English . and General Awareness. The exam pattern for these categories have been given below for the candidates: For IMA, INA and AFA: a)Total Number of Subjects: English. Elementary Mathematics and General Knowledge b) Time Duration: Six hours (2 hours for each paper) c) Maximum Marks: 300 marks (100 marks for each paper) For OTA: a) Total Number of Subjects: English . and General Knowledge b) Time Duration: Four hours (2 hours for each paper) c) Maximum Marks: 200 Marks (100 marks for each paper). .

Q:   What is the exam pattern for OTA CDS exam?

A:
The OTA (Officer's Training Academy) CDS exam pattern is similar to the CDS exam pattern for the other academies, with a few differences. The OTA CDS exam is conducted in two stages: a written exam which is followed by an interview. The written exam consists of two papers: a) English This paper is of two hours duration and consists of objective-type questions designed to test the candidate's understanding of English grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and usage. B) General Knowledge: This paper is also of 2 hours duration and consists of objective type questions on various topics such as Current Affairs history, geography, economics, and general Science. It is important to note that there is no Elementary Mathematics paper for the OTA CDS exam Also, the OTA CDS exam is conducted only for the candidates who have applied for Short Service Commission (Non-Technical) course. The interview for the OTA CDS exam is similar to that of the other CDS academies and includes a Psychological Aptitude Test and a Personal Interview.

Q:   Is there negative marking scheme in CDS exam?

A:
Yes, there is a negative marking scheme in the CDS exam. One-third of the marks assigned to a question are deducted for each incorrect answer. For example, if a question carries one mark and a candidate gives an incorrect answer, then 0.33 marks will be deducted from their total score. If a candidate leaves a question unanswered, there will be no negative marking for that question. It is important for candidates to be careful and avoid making wild guesses. They should attempt only those questions for which they are confident of the correct answer. This will help them avoid losing marks due to negative marking and improve their chances of qualifying for the interview round.

The CDS 2 2025 notification will be released on May 28, 2025. The CDS 2 application form 2025 will be available from May 28 to June 17, 2025. The CDS 2 2025 exam will be conducted on September 14, 2025.

Q:   Is there a time limit for each subject in CDS exam?

Yes, there is a time limit for each subject in the CDS exam. The exam is conducted in three stages, namely a written exam, an interview, and a medical exam. The written exam comprises three papers: English General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics, and each paper has a specific time limit as mentioned below: a) English 2 hours b) General Knowledge: 2 hours c) Maths 2 hours The total time duration of the CDS exam is 6 hours. It is essential to manage time effectively during the exam to attempt all questions within the given time frame. Candidates should also keep in mind that there is a negative marking for incorrect answers and they should answer the questions carefully.

Q:   What is the pattern for CDS written exam?

A:
The CDS (Combined Defence Services) written exam consists of three papers English General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. The details of the pattern for each paper are as follows: English: The English paper is of 2 hours duration and carries a total of 100 marks. It tests the candidate's proficiency in the English language and includes questions on comprehension, synonyms, antonyms, error detection, sentence rearrangement, and fill in the blanks. General Knowledge: The General Knowledge paper is of 2 hours duration and carries a total of 100 marks. It tests the candidate's knowledge of current events, history, geography, and other topics related to India and the world. Elementary Mathematics: The Elementary Mathematics paper is of 2 hours duration and carries a total of 100 marks. It tests the candidate's knowledge of elementary mathematics, including topics such as arithmetic, Algebra geometry, and Trigonometry. All the papers are objective type and consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The standard of the papers is that of a graduate-level examination. It is important to note that there is negative marking for wrong answers in the CDS written exam. One-third of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for each wrong answer. Therefore, candidates should prepare well and practice solving mock tests and previous year question papers to score well in the CDS written exam and increase their chances of selection.

Q:   What is the pay scale in CDS?

The pay scale for CDS officers varies depending on their rank and position. Generally, the pay scale for CDS officers is quite competitive and includes various allowances and benefits. For example, the starting pay for a Lieutenant in the Indian Army is around Rs. 56,100 per month. This includes basic pay, Military Service Pay, and other allowances such as Dearness Allowance, Kit Maintenance Allowance, and Field Area Allowance. The pay scales for higher ranks such as Captain, Major, and Lieutenant Colonel are higher, and officers may also receive promotions and increments based on their performance and years of service. It's important to note that the pay scale and other benefits may vary depending on the academy or service for which the officer is recruited, as well as their rank and position.

CDS Application Form 2025

The CDS 1 application form 2025 as per the UPSC annual calendar released on December 11, 2024. The last date to apply for the CDS 1 2025 was January 1, 2025 (extended). On the other hand, the CDS 2 2025 application form will be released on May 28, 2025. Candidates will be able to fill the application form till June 15, 2025. The application fee is INR 200 for General and OBC male candidates. No fee is required for SC/ST/female candidates. Candidates can check below the steps to fill the CDS 1 application form 2025: 

  • Log in to your registered account or register for the OTR
  • Click on the CDS 1 exam link
  • Fill out the details asked
  • Upload the photograph, signature, and Photo Identity card
  • Make the application fee for the CDS 1 exam 
  • Choose the CDS 1 exam centre
  • Finally, submit the application form 
  • A confirmation message will be sent to the candidate's registered mobile number and email id

CDS Eligibility 2025

The eligibility criteria of CDS is provided below:

CDS 1 Age Limit 2025

  • For Indian Military Academy (IMA), unmarried male candidates born not earlier than January 2, 2001, and not later than January 1, 2006, are eligible to apply
  • For the Indian Naval Academy (IMA), unmarried male candidates born not earlier than January 2, 2001, and not later than January 1, 2006, are eligible to apply
  • Candidates applying for the Air Force Academy should be between 20 to 24 years, as on January 1, 2025. They must have been born not earlier than January 2, 2001, and not later than January 1, 2005
  • For Officers’ Training Academy (SSC Course for men), unmarried male candidates born not earlier than January 2, 2000 and not later than January 1, 2006, are eligible to apply
  • For Officers’ Training Academy (SSC Women Non-Technical Course), candidates should be unmarried and born not earlier than January 2, 2000, and not later than January 1, 2006

CDS Age Limit for Females

Women candidates are now eligible to apply for the CDS OTA exam. The CDS age limit for Females should be 19 to 25 years.

CDS Age Limit for OBC

OBC candidates can also apply for the CDS 2 2025 exam. As we know, there is no caste-based reservation in the CDS exam. So, the CDS Age Limit for OBC is also the same as per the other castes, i.e., 19 to 25 years.

CDS Admit Card 2025

The CDS admit card 2025 will be released online on the official website. Candidates need to use their application number and date of birth to login to the registered accounts. CDS admit card comprises details such as the candidate's name, roll number, date of birth, scanned photograph, signature, details regarding the CDS exam centre, etc. The CDS exam is conducted by UPSC for the recruitment of Commissioned Officers in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. 

CDS Exam Pattern 2025

The CDS 2025 exam pattern is divided into written exam and SSB interview. Also, the CDS exam patterns for the INA, AFA, and IMA are similar but the CDS OTA exam pattern is slightly different from the other three. The written exam for IMA, INA and AFA comprises three sections namely English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. The total duration of the exam is six hours that is each section is of two hours and the total marks of the test for IMA, INA and AFA are 300.

The written exam for OTA consists of two sections namely English and General Knowledge. The total duration of the exam for OTA is four hours that is each section is for two hours. The total marks of the test for OTA are 200.

CDS Syllabus 2025

The CDS syllabus for IMA, INA, and AFA has three subjects, and in OTA it has two subjects. The CDS Mathematics syllabus standard is of Class 10, while for other subjects, it is of graduation level. It is important to know the syllabus for the exam preparation. The CDS syllabus consists of three subjects: Elementary Mathematics, English Language and General Knowledge. It is to be noted that Elementary Mathematics is only for those candidates who have applied for IMA, INA, and AFA.

CDS 2025 Selection Process

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) prescribes the CDS selection process to select the eligible candidates in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. The selection process of CDS consists of two stages namely a written exam and an SSB interview. SSB Interview is a two-stage process. Candidates need to secure CDS cut off marks to qualify for each stage of selection. Candidates are assigned All India Ranks based on their merit. The allotment is done on merit-cum-preference basis.
