Why is NDA the best career option to join Defence?: Since its existence, the National Defence Academy (NDA) has grown both in grace and grandeur. It is one of the most prestigious defence academies in the country. Every year, thousands of people join the Indian Armed Forces to serve the country. It is considered a matter of pride and honour. Defending a country is the best reward that we can have. Selection of candidates for admission to the prestigious defence academies is done based on the NDA exam which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Nowadays, young people know what is best for their careers, and many choose NDA not only for pride and honour but also because it is regarded as spectacular and respectable by the general public. Q:   What is the difference between NDA 1 and 2 exams?

A:

There is no difference between UPSC NDA 1 and 2 exams. NDA 1 exam is conducted for admission to the January batch. Whereas, NDA 2 exam is conducted for admission to July batch.

National Defence Academy or NDA exam is conducted twice a year by Union Public Service Commission for admission to  Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA and Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). It is the most sought-after defence entrance exams in the country where both male and female candidates can apply.

The exam is conducted in two stages: written exam and SSB Interview. In 2020, a total of 5.3 Lacs candidates had applied for the exam, out of which 2.4 Lacs candidates appeared for the exam. UPSC prepares a list of candidates who obtain minimum qualifying marks in the written exam. Such candidates are called for SSB Interview for Intelligence and Personality Test.

Q:   What is the difference between NDA and CDS exams?

A:
Though both are defence exams, there are many similarities and differences in the recruitment process, exam pattern, training, salary, perks, promotion, eligibility, etc. NDA is conducted for candidates who wish to join the defence services after Class 12. CDS is the exam conducted for the graduate candidates for training at Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Air Force Academy (AFA), Officers Training Academy (OTA) and Indian Naval Academy (INA). NDA exam is conducted for Class 12 pass candidates. Whereas, CDS exam is conducted for graduate-level candidates. NDA exam carries two subjects-GAT and Maths. CDS exam carries three papers-Maths, English and GK. English and GK section is conducted for OTA, IMA, INA and AFA. Maths paper is conducted for IMA, INA and AFA. The total marks allotted to the written exam of NDA is 900 whereas it is 300 for CDS.

Q:   Who earns more- NDA officer or IAS officer?

A:

The NDA Cadets receive a fixed stipend of INR 56,100 per month during the training duration. An IAS Officer may earn between INR 56,100 and INR 2,50,000 annually as salary.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the NDA exam twice a year for admission to the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy courses. The National Defence Academy is located at Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra. The Supreme Court of India allowed female candidates to join the NDA in 2021.

Candidates who apply for NDA are selected through a written examination and an SSB interview that comprises general aptitude, psychological testing, team skills, as well as physical and social skills, along with medical tests. Candidates who join the Air Force through the flying branch also go through a test known as the Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS).

NDA is considered the best career option for those who want to serve their country. No doubt, it is a challenging career with lots of responsibilities and duties. Every year more than four lakh students apply for the NDA exam, so from this we come to know the craze among students for this exam.

Serving the nation is one of the biggest reasons to join the NDA, and so is a good career option. Candidates who join the Indian Army provide their country with selfless service and give them a sense of pride. The Indian Army protects the country by defending it from the enemy's armed forces.

High Salary 

NDA salary has witnessed several changes since the 7th Pay Commision. Candidates who join the NDA are offered attractive payscales and allowances. Benefits start from the training period itself. The stipend provided to cadets during the entire duration of training in service academies is INR 56,100 at IMA. After the successful training, the salary of the Officer Commissioned will be fixed in the first Cell of Level 10. Cadet salaries are listed below by rank.

NDA Selection Process

The selection process of NDA comprises written exam and SSB interview. The written exam is conducted for 900 marks and comprises two subjects-Maths and GAT. The SSB interview is conducted in two stages and carries 900 marks.
